Lithuania get back to winning ways
Wednesday 15 October 2008Coach Jógvan Martin Olsen's final match in charge of the Faroe Islands ended in defeat as his team went down 1-0 in Lithuania.
Third win
Neither side caught the eye in Kaunas but a 20th-minute strike by Lithuania captain Tomas Danilevicius was enough to settle the outcome and give the hosts their third win of this FIFA World Cup Group 7 campaign.
Leading marksman
José Couceiro's men could have taken the lead as early as the 13th minute when Vidas Alunderis missed the target with a straightforward header. But that wastefulness was soon forgotten as Danilevicius hit a powerful shot into bottom right-hand corner of the Faroe Islands goal. It was a 17th international goal for the country's most prolific forward.
