J River Media Jukebox

Nice GUI but are we in need of it?

You get the same if you use iTunes or WMP. No need to install just another third party piece of software.

If you have a closer look, you find a couple of options you won't find in WMP.

You can choose various drivers like ASIO and Wave Out. WASAPI is available in the Media Center only.

You can define your own tags.

There are various data types. One is ‘list’ allowing you to store multiple values.
You can choose to store them in the audio as tags (if the format allows for it) and include them in the search when using the searchbox.

The interface can be fully customized.

Select the field you want to display in thumbnail view

View Scheme allows you to configure the navigation pane or add your own view.

Simply add the fields of your choice to the scheme.

Find and replace for fast bulk editing.

Library functions enable you to manipulate files, copy the contents of one field to another, renumber tracks, etc.

YADB is the internet database.

I tried Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 1 op. 18.1 played by the Alban Berg Quartet and a couple of other popular classical works too but no result. Like so many of these databases, support for classical music is poor.

Conclusion

An excellent piece of freeware, it tops the GUI of WMP and adds the flexibility of Foobar and bulk tagging options of MP3Tag without the complexity of these programs.
