[edit] How to
[edit] Directions
Virtual Audio Cable + Any soundcard + Console signal routing/VST plugin chaining
NOTE: This might only work with audio players and not DVD software players. DVD players do not use the "directsound" audio stream, and I believe the audio stream is also not MME. This has to be tested still. Screenshots might be added later.
1) Install VAC (Virtual Audio Cable) and define a 2 channel "soundcard".
2) Setup Default soundcard in windows to VAC. This will make the audio stream go into VAC, not your soundcard. It will allwo you to "insert" a software audio processor between VAC and your actual soundcard.
3) In Winamp or other audio player go to "output" type and select "Directsound" as the audio stream type
4) Open up Console, click on "Audio" button and goto "audio device"
5) In the "driver type" box select "DirectSound". You can also select MME if using the standard "waveout" stream in Winamp or audio player. The audio stream selected in winamp has to match the driver type in the VSThost.
6) For device output, select your soundcard
7) For your device input, select VAC.
8) Click one the "INTRNL" button and you should see WAV input as VAC, and WAV output as your soundcard.
9) Drag those onto the workspace and then wire up your VST plugins.
Enjoy!
