Hello! I've been a loyal Ballotpedian for several months so I thought I should introduce myself.
February 2009
November 1, 2008
Working on the California propositions, state and local, has been a tremendous learning opportunity. Through the editing work I've done, I've developed the view that as an editor, my responsibility is similar to that of a sportscaster. It is the job of a sportscaster to speak as clearly as possible about what is happening in (say) the football game that is unfolding. Sportscasters have to be passionate about sports to do a good job, and they probably have their favorite teams. But it is their responsibility to be resolutely neutral as they "sportscast" the game, using their passion not to inflict one or another personal view on the reader/listener, but rather using their passion and interest to fuel new (neutral) ways of further explaining or informing or covering the game (ballot proposition) with further context and details. If you're reading this, I hope you'll consider also working on California with me and others. The more I write on Ballotpedia, the more it seems that there is to write. It's like starting a quilt that you never finish; it just keeps getting bigger and bigger, more satisfying and more interesting.
Old stuff
Mark for deletion:
The two editing areas I tend to focus on the most are anything to do with the California ballot initiative system and then from a wiki-gardening standpoint, how categories work. The current category system I think needs some tweaks to make it as intuitive and useful to readers as possible.
Some articles I've put in a lot of work on include:
- California Proposition 93 (2008)
- California Tribal Gaming Compacts (2008)
- California Presidential Electoral College Reform Initiative (2008)
If you'd like to get in touch please leave me a message on my talk page.
Here are the years I'll be working on in the next few weeks as part of List of California ballot measures.
