Game Master Program

The GM Program is designed to help game masters (GMs) showcase their talent while developing the vital skills and rules knowledge needed to run great RPGA events. Participants begin at the Herald Level and may advance all the way to Paragon Level. Each progressive GM rank builds on the previous levels while adding both greater responsibility and greater rewards. The application requirements also become more demanding with each new level.

Everyone who enters the program and remains a member in good standing is guaranteed at least a Herald-Level ranking and receives basic program benefits. GMs who progress above the Herald Level are able to maintain their higher ranking through active participation in RPGA programs and by continually fulfilling the requirements for their level. Each GM level is summarized below and linked to a page with a full description of program requirements and benefits.

GM Level Profiles

Currently, only the Herald Level and Master Level are available. Grand Master and Paragaon Level are in the works.

GM Level Description
Herald Level The Herald Level is the entry level to the GM program. Aspiring members are tested on their basic D&D v.3.5 core rules knowledge. Applicants become Herald-Level GMs by scoring 95% on an online, open-book test with twenty questions.
Master Level Master-Level GMs possess a strong command of the core rules and are adept at handling players during a game session. Starting at Master-Level, GMs are eligible to receive extra benefits as part of the D&D Reward program.
Grand Master Level Grand-Master-Level GMs are rule experts and skilled in captivating and managing players during a game session. Additionally, they posses the skills need to run a game day, small convention, or a slot at a major show. Testing for this level includes passing online testing, and an interview.
Paragon Level Paragon-Level GMs form the elite upper ranks of RPGA GMs. Game rules and session management are in their blood. These individuals have also mastered the skills for managing large conventions and shows. Testing for this level includes an application process, seminar, intensive interview, and five games proctored by RPGA officials.
Special note about Senior GMs: The term Senior GM is not a level in the GM program but applies to any GM who orders adventures for and administrates an event.
