Opening Salvo: Pt. 6
1939-1945 Set
by Robert Mull

The new Axis and Allies Miniatures: 1939-1945 Starter Set and boosters will hit store shelves next week on October 26th. Last week we looked at the Soviet KV-1 and T-26B, both in new paint schemes. This week we look at two popular Allied aircraft.

IL-10 Sturmovik

The IL-10 Sturmovik was a workhorse of the Soviet Air Force. A resilient ground-assault aircraft capable of taking a pounding and returning home. This is reflected in its Superior Armor 2 special ability. This new version of the Sturmovik has the same stats and cost as the earlier version, but now sports a Soviet winter paint scheme, complete with red stars, red nose cone and a pale blueish-gray underbelly. It's important to note that the plane isn't a bright white color, but more of a "dirty" cream color, reflecting a winter paint scheme that has seen some action and aging.

Supermarine Spitfire Mk. I

The actual Supermarine Spitfire does exist!. The paint scheme reflects a classic Spitfire look, with a camouflage paint job and a dark underbelly. The stats and cost of the Spitfire remain unchanged, which means it keeps the advantage of having the Agility special ability. I'm sure many Allied commanders will be looking forward to having an authentic Spitfire in their armies at last.

Check back next Friday when we will be launching the complete gallery for the 1939-1945 Set. Until then, go to our message boards to talk about this preview.
