Initially discussed creating an Umbraco specific "fundable.com" like area at store.umbraco.org that would allow individuals or groups to propose a package or feature that fit 1 of 2 categories:
- I need this :: describes desired functionality
- I have an idea :: describes proposed functionality
Without discussing in detail we decided that the general approach where the desired amount must be met within a certain timeframe else all pledges were canceled.
One key aspect was building in a set amount in each proposal that would be set aside for Umbraco Core development
There needs to be a certain minimum set of properties for each proposal to allow enough transparency:
- license model
- acceptance criteria
- feature/requirements listing (specification)
- quality assessment
- ownership
Paul Sterling agreed to mock-up the functionality as a "preview" and make available via the Umbraco Store.
Several participants suggested evaluating the "marketplace" area for DNN, OSCommerce, and Typo3 for examples of what has been done.
The group spent the remainder of the session discussing the "most wanted" packages that could add immediate value to the Umbraco project:
- Issue tracker with pluggable intergration with FogBuzz, BaseCamp, Atlantis, etc...
