The 2009 Magic: The Gathering World Championships is the culmination of the Magic year. Players from more than 50 countries will come together in Rome, Italy for the pinnacle of international Magic competition. National Champions, Pro Tour winners, the highest-ranked DCI players, and more will square off to earn the coveted title of "World Champion."
Worlds also features the best public events of the season. There's also a slew of attractions inside the hall such as VIP Richard Garfield, artist signings, fan activities, game shows, trading, and much more for every type of Magic player.
The 2009 World Championships will be held November 19-22 at the Palazzo Dei Congressi.

The main airport is Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino). The other airport is Pastine (Ciampino), where most charter flights land.

Leonardo da Vinci airport is 26 km from Rome and the quickest way to reach central Rome is the shuttle train, the Leonardo Express, which leaves every 30 minutes for the main station, Stazione Termini. The journey takes about half an hour and costs €11. From there, it is possible to reach any point in the city thanks to the extensive public transport network. The terminus is right outside the station and it is connected to the two underground lines, A and B. Also inside the airport train station is the local train, which stops at Trastevere, Ostiense and Tiburtina Stations. The cost is €5.50. At night there is a coach service from Fiumicino to Tiburtina station.
Ciampino airport is about 20 km from the city; it is connected to the FS (State Railway) train station Roma Termini by Cotral/Schiaffini blue buses. Tickets can be bought onboard and cost €5.
The Sitbusshuttle line also connects the airport to Termini station at a cost of €6 .
Terravision offers a city transfer service for those arriving with Ryanair, Easyjet, Hapag Lloyd Express, Wizz Air, Blue Air and Central Wings. Tickets cost €8 for adults and €4 for children. They can be bought on airplanes, the internet sites of the low cost companies, at the stands in front of the airport arrival area as well as directly from Terravision

The Comune di Roma (Rome Council) has set up a fixed tariff for taxis from Fiumicino and Ciampino Airports to inside the city walls. The tariff is €40 from Fiumicino and €30 from Ciampino (maximum 4 people with baggage included in the tariff).

The main stations in Rome are Stazione Termini (Piazza dei Cinquecento) and Stazione Tiburtina (Piazza della Stazione Tiburtina). Both stations are connected to the network by the underground and many buses in all directions leave from outside the stations. For information on times and ticket prices we advise you to connect the railway company site Ferrovie dello Stato ring you can also buy tickets on-line and pick them up on the train itself.
The Road to Worlds
Ready to take the first steps on the Road to Worlds? Here's how you can qualify for the biggest Magic tournament of the year:
Regionals
: Finish high enough in one of your country's Regionals or National Qualifier tournaments and you can pack your bags for the National Championship.
National Championships
: The top four finishers at your country's National Championship form the National Team, earning automatic invites to Worlds. If your country runs an open (non-invitation) National Championship, only the winner earns the invitation to Worlds.
Pro Tour Success
: If you achieve at least Level 3 in the Pro Players Club, you could be on your way to Worlds. Level 4 status guarantees a slot in the biggest Magic tournament of the year.
DCI Ranking
: If you're one of the top 50 DCI Composite- or Total-ranked players in one of the four geographic regions (Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America, and North America), welcome to the World Championships.
Magic Online Championship Series
: Wizards of the Coast is running a series of qualifier tournaments on Magic Online that will offer eight invitations to the World Championships, as well as invitations to an exclusive Magic Online Championship to be held at Worlds.
