Pitchfork on ABC: Kasabian's West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum

Pitchfork on ABC: Kasabian's West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum

Pitchfork writers regularly appear on ABC's World News Webcast to chat about notable albums they've recently reviewed. Previously, we saw Douglas Wolk on Superchunk's Leaves in the Gutter, Ian Cohen on Asher Roth's Asleep in the Bread Aisle, Eminem's Relapse, and Passion Pit's Manners, and Paul Thompson on Grizzly Bear's Veckatamist and Dirty Projectors' Bitte Orca, and Marc Hogan on Stuart Murdoch's God Help the Girl project. Cohen is back in action now talking about Kasabian's West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum.

News in Brief: Pink Floyd, Punk Fiction, Alela Diane, Kasabian

News in Brief: Pink Floyd, Punk Fiction, Alela Diane, Kasabian

-- The Guardian reports that Pink Floyd, one of the biggest-selling bands in the history of the universe, has filed a lawsuit against EMI, its old label, over "miscalculated royalty payments." Some accountant is so fired.

-- The anthology Punk Fiction features short stories written by folks like Billy Bragg, Alison Mosshart of the Kills/the Dead Weather, and Bloc Party's Kele Okereke, with each story inspired by a specific punk song. Hopefully everyone involved took more than two-and-a-half minutes to write their stories. The book is out now in the UK via Portico. You can read "Another Girl, Another Planet", the contribution from Maxïmo Park's Paul Smith, inspired by the Only Ones song, right here. (Via the Quietus)

-- On May 19, Headless Heroes, a band that features freak-folk siren Alela Diane, will self-release the all-cover album The Silence of Love, which features their versions of songs by the Jesus and Mary Chain, Daniel Johnston, and Nick Cave, among others. Diane herself will head out on a brief tour in May.

-- For some reason, Britpop louts Kasabian thought it would be a good idea to name their third album The West Rider Pauper Lunatic Asylum. RCA will release the album in the U.S. on June 9. Dan the Automator produced it alongside guitarist Serge Pizzorno.
