The AMA Ethics Group is responsible for helping establish ethical policies, developing educational programs and pursuing scholarly research of ethical issues in medicine that physicians are likely to encounter in their training and daily practice.

AMA to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
The AMA recently shared its concerns regarding unjustly imprisoned Iranian physicians, Drs. Kamiar and Arash Alaei, with the U.S. State Department. In a letter to Secretary Clinton, Dr. Maves writes "we strongly urge that discussions of human rights, justice and respect for the medical profession (and the Alaei brothers specifically) must be a part of any opening dialogue with Iran." AMA supporting physicians unjustly imprisoned in Iran
May 12 is an international day of action in support of two Iranian physicians—Kamiar Alaei, MD, and his brother Arash Alaei, MD—who have developed innovative programs for preventing and treating HIV in Iran. The Iranian government charged the physicians last year with cooperating with an enemy government, then tried and sentenced them to prison in January.
