AMA dues are not deductible as a charitable contribution for federal income tax purposes, but may be partially deducted as a business expense. AMA estimates that 50 percent of your membership dues are allocable to lobbying activities of the AMA, and therefore are not deductible for income tax purposes.

The allocated costs of $32 for JAMA and $26 for AMNews are included in, and not deductible from AMA membership dues paid before July 1, 2008. If you paid AMA dues after July 1, 2008, the non-deductible allocated costs for JAMA and AMNews are $35 and $25, respectively. All members receive free online access to JAMA, American Medical News, Archives journals and AMA Morning Rounds.
