Sport Science

It is widely accepted that playing the game isn’t enough to optimize performance in football. The game is getting faster and more physical and players must be physically and mentally prepared to play at high intensity for a full 90 minutes.

Sport science, including physiology, strength and conditioning, nutrition, biomechanics and psychology, plays a crucial role in the development of successful players, coaches and referees.

New Zealand Football has a comprehensive programme of sport science and sports medicine support for it's national age group players (male and female).

Visit the SoccerSmart website for more information about improving the physical condition and reducing the injury risk of players of all ages and ability.
