Morgan Spurlock Directing Joss Whedon's ComicCon Documentary

10 hours ago | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Back in February, rumors swirled that Morgan Spurlock and Joss Whedon were collaborating on a ComicCon documentary. It sounded a bit reality show at the time, and neither Spurlock or Whedon would confirm their involvement. But today, their partnership is official. According to Slashfilm, Spurlock will be directing a ComicCon documentary titled (of course) Comic-Con Episode Four: A Fan's Hope. Whedon will be producing alongside Stan Lee and Harry Knowles.

A Fan's Hope will begin shooting this June, and will culminate at ComicCon 2010. The documentary will follow seven people as they make the trek from all corners of the globe to the place known as Geek Mecca. "When I was a kid, comics changed my life and my world," says Spurlock. "So when I got to San Diego, I felt like I was home. It was such an overwhelming experience for me, and I soon found out that I was not alone. »

19 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

With Scream 4 set to open next year on April 15, 2011, Dimension Studios has begun looking for fresh new faces to join the horror movie franchise.  The studio is currently in talks with Ashley Greene (Twilight), Hayden Panettiere (Heroes), Lake Bell (It’s Complicated), and Rory Culkin (Mean Creek) to join returning cast members Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox in the film.  Heat Vision reports that if the deals are made, Green would be playing Campbell’s cousin in the film named Jill with Culkin being cast as her potential love interest.  Panettiere would be playing a nerdy film geek who is her best friend.  Meanwhile, Bell will be playing a police officer who knew Sidney (Campbell) from high school.

The story is still unknown due to secrecy but the plan is for the film to “be seen as a passing of the baton to a new generation of slasher victims. »

Review: Holy Rollers

5 hours ago | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

From the very first frames of Holy Rollers, star Jesse Eisenberg looks worried. As well he should be -- from Roger Dodger to Zombieland, anxiety has more often than not been the foundation for his performances, and it's from there that he tends to exude the naivete or courage or what-have-you that defines each role. In this case, he runs the gamut as twenty-year-old Hasidic Jew Samuel Gold.

For starters, Sam has every right to be anxious. His family wants to see him become a rabbi, maybe marry a nice local girl, even if their humble stature doesn't make him the most inviting prospect, and his father (Mark Ivanir) is too proud to let his son help out by working for someone else instead of with him in his Brooklyn textiles shop. Enter Yosef (Justin Bartha), the bad boy next door and big brother to best friend Leon (Jason Fuchs »

Movie Reviews: “Shrek Forever After”

8 hours ago | | See recent news »

Although DreamWorks Animation is billing Shrek Forever After as “the final chapter,” several critics are suggesting that it really amounts to the equivalent of a perfunctory, unnecessary epilogue. As Joe Morgenstern puts it in the Wall Street Journal: “Having run its course in the third installment, the franchise jogs and lurches but mostly meanders through a story that tests the limits of true love (Shrek’s, and ours).” That’s a common thread of most of the reviews. “I’ve seen Keebler Elf commercials with more story line,” comments Kyle Smith in the New York Post. “The energy is lacking and the fun feels forced,” writes Claudia Puig in USA Today, who notes that “the pop-culture references and joyous spirit have been replaced by spurts of slapstick and contrived mania.” And Roger Moore in the Orlando Sentinel concludes that the movie “goes down like warmed-over porridge. You don’t have to be Goldilocks to think that this time they’ve cooked their Golden Goose.” A few critics, however, remain enchanted by the character and his exploits. Stephen Cole in the Toronto Globe and Mail writes, “The latest and last Shrek comes to life not because it finally gives in to 3-D (although it does), but because the DreamWorks creative team has transplanted the beating heart of a 1946 film classic, Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life, into the series’ giant green carcass.” Betsy Sharkey in the Los Angeles Times also believes that this sequel is an improvement over the last one. She remarks: “Forever After comes back with more heart and much of the kick-in-the-pop-culture-keister cleverness that made the greenish brute such a breath of fresh air when Shrek first blew into town nearly a decade ago.” And Stephen Holden in the New York Times observes that what fortifies the film “are its brilliantly realized principal characters, who nearly a decade after the first Shrek film remain as vital and engaging fusions of image, personality and voice as any characters in the history of animation.” »

Is Vincent Cassel Hardwicke's Big Bad Wolf?

3 hours ago | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

That Amanda Seyfried loves to tease the press, and we love her for it. The gorgeous starlet told MTV who she'd ideally like to join the sexy cast of Catherine Hardwicke's "not another Twilight" flick, Red Riding Hood, and that his initials are Vc. It doesn't take a scientist -- only a movie nerd -- to figure out that it's entirely possible that Vc stands for Vincent Cassel, whose known best for playing bad guys in films like Eastern Promises and Oceans Twelve and Thirteen.

Fans of French cinema will recognize him as the lead creep in the horror film Sheitan and Brotherhood of the Wolf, which is about, you guessed it, werewolves. He's also attached to play the villainous lead in Fantomas alongside Jean Reno, directed by Silent Hill's Christopher Gans and planned for 3D.

So even though Cassel's slate is looking rather full -- he's currently »
