Scoop: Sarandon joins HBO's 'Miraculous Year'

15 hours ago | EW - Ausiello Files | See recent EW.com - The Ausiello Files news »

HBO’s star-studded Broadway-themed pilot The Miraculous Year has lined up another impressive name: Susan Sarandon.

The Oscar winner has been cast in the recurring role of Patty Atwood, the director/choreographer of the play-within-the-show.

Produced by Tony winner John Logan and Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow (who’s directing the pilot), Year centers on a wildly self-destructive and manipulative Broadway composer (played by Broadway vet Norbert Leo Butz) who’s juggling both a challenging new show and his dysfunctional New York family.

Production on the pilot begins today in New York.

Year’s impressive cast also includes…

Add one more prominent name to the list of guest stars on Showtime's new series "The Big C."

Liam Neeson ("The A-Team," "Taken") will make a guest appearance on the show, the Hartford Courant reports. There's no word on who he'll be playing in his first on-camera appearance in an American TV series in better than 20 years (since a 1986 episode of "Miami Vice," to be exact).

Laura Linney stars in "The Big C" as a suburbanite whose cancer diagnosis gives her a new outlook on life. Oliver Platt plays her husband, and "Precious" star Gabourey Sidibe has a recurring part.

Other guest stars for the first season include Cynthia Nixon ("Sex and the City"), Idris Elba ("The Wire") and Reid Scott ("My Boys").

"The Big C" premieres Aug. 16.

Big Brother 12 Week 3 Hoh/Nominations Ceremony Recap

3 hours ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

The Houseguests (and my) "worst nightmare" came true Sunday night on Big Brother.

The power has shifted and the hamsters scurried to save their asses, but who came out on top when the reset button was pushed this week?

Picking up where the live show left off Thursday, we returned to our houseguests as they continued their endurance challenge, which consisted of them standing on moving surfboards while torrents of water rained down on them from above their standings. Another thing that the Houseguests 'fought' for was the Have/Have Nots competition, which stipulated that the first five people to drop would be the Haves, while the four people to fall before the Hoh is crowned will be the Have Nots. Lots at stake here, people. Rachel sat on the sidelines, cheering for Brendon the entire time, unknowingly (?) marking an even elephantine target on their backs. The other most ridiculous »

Chris Harrison blogs ‘The Bachelorette’: The Men Tell All

6 hours ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

I really wasn’t sure just how good this “Men Tell All” episode was going to be, mostly because I worried the guys were too buddy-buddy to give us any solid content. Oh how I was wrong! We shot this episode in a new, much bigger studio than the one we usually use. That meant we could fit even more fans in to see the show, which really helped crank up the atmosphere and excitement. I love hosting shows in front of a live studio audience.

The sit-down interviews I did with Ali to start the show were a blast. »

'Lopez Tonight': Selena Gomez Loses Voice, Does Interview with DynaVox (Video)

6 hours ago | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Selena Gomez couldn't utter a single word yesterday. But that didn't keep the actress/singer/Disney phenom from appearing on 'Lopez Tonight' (weeknights, 11Pm Et on TBS). A DynaVox spoke for her, and the slow, automated speech machine created an odd interview.

"I'm sorry. I'm so upset," it said in monotone, "But at least it's funny. Right?" When she recently turned 18 years old, "my band sang Back / street Boys to me / it-was-so funny," explained the machine in its peculiar automated cadence.

George Lopez then helped the actress tell a story about performing with her "very close" friend Justin Bieber. But before revealing the punchline, the DynaVox said, "I love him." Let's assume (for now) that Gomez isn't in love with Bieber. Or did she really choose to make that announcement via DynaVox?

Bill O'Reilly Talks Sherrod 'Mistake,' Likes Lady Gaga, Feels Badly for LiLo (Video)

Perhaps Bill O'Reilly would like to leave 'The O'Reilly Factor' and become a correspondent for 'Access Hollywood'? Sounds like he really wants to meet Lada Gaga and Lindsay Lohan.

When he appeared on 'The Tonight Show' (weeknights, 11:35Pm Et on NBC), the bulk of the conversation was infotainment. That's after he revisited his apology to Shirley Sherrod.

The Fox News pundit said his coverage of the Shirley Sherrod story was a case of not reading "the entire transcript." He made "a mistake," he readily admitted, and it was the "first time in 13 years we had to retract a story."

As for Lady Gaga, O'Reilly said, "She's an unbelievable marketer ... She's gotta be very intelligent underneath the Lady Gaga-ness that we see." He said he wants her to visit the show.

'Sucker Punch' trailer: 'You have all the weapons you need!'

7 hours ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Watchmen and 300 director Zack Snyder has apparently described his new movie, Sucker Punch, as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns.” And the action-packed trailer would very much seem to back up that assessment.

True, I didn’t see any waistcoat-wearing rabbits. But there’s plenty of young ladies, and machine guns, and ordinary guns, and big swords, and a fire-breathing dragon, and a burning airship. There’s also a metronome. But I guess Snyder probably thought, rightly, that describing the movie as “Alice in Wonderland with a metronome,” wasn’t such an appealing sell.

Anyway, it’s quite a trailer, »

'The Real Housewives of New Jersey' - 'Youth Will Be Served' Recap

(S02E12) Caroline's kitchen is the place to be. Gotta love the fun-loving Manzos when they get together to talk family shop and playfully rib one another. The drive Albie's showing in applying to the police academy makes such a difference from a few episodes ago when he came off as "The Dejected Son." Good for him.

While Joe would surely have incurred the wrath of Teresa (read: A whole 24 hours, not days, without hanky panky) for using the "luxury tax" ring from Monopoly as a tenth wedding anniversary gift, it's a really good thing his rose shirt doesn't fit. Did you enjoy the shots of the perhaps slightly weirded-out driver and waiter observing the Giudices' ... amorousness?

Maybe partly due to the way it's filmed and scored, but the scene with Danielle and Jillian comes off as creepy and foreboding. When she tells 11-year-old Jillian »

TV on DVD Review: Touching Evil, The Complete Collection

8 hours ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

If you're wondering what Touching Evil and Life on Mars (my other DVD review) have in common, it's that they're both British police dramas. You see, that's what Acorn Media specializes in: British crime shows. There's nothing wrong with that; in fact, I rather love it. But if it's tone you're looking at, Touching Evil is the polar opposite of Life on Mars. The latter is a rather lighthearted series that focuses on the protagonist, while Touching Evil is actually a fairly gritty, and much darker look at the criminals. It's a British version of Criminal Minds, in a sense.

The plot is some of the tightest stuff I've seen. It's exponentially more gripping than the procedural dramas it was a precursor to, though possibly this extended development is a result of the longer episodes (each episode runs close to 100 minutes). However, the episodes still never run slack, and are »

'MasterChef': Home cooks have Gordon Ramsay spitting mad

Gordon Ramsay is putting home cooks into the kitchen and turning up the heat.

The chef's latest culinary competition show "MasterChef" premieres Tuesday, July 27 at 8 p.m. Et, following his other Fox show "Hell's Kitchen."

On the show, everyday people with a knack for cooking participate in a challenges to prove they've got the recipe for success: a good palate palate, gastronomy knowledge, drive and skills to win $250,000 and publish their own cookbook.

But first, they must get on the show, and that means a scary audition process in which they must cook a meal for the three judges: Ramsay, Graham Elliott Bowles and Joe Bastianich.

Watch three chef wannabes present their dishes and the judges' varying reactions. We're particularly entertained by Suzette James' tilapia fish tacos with mango salsa presentation. Is she flirting with Ramsay using soccer double entendre? Goal!!!!!

'The Bachelorette' instant reaction: The Men Tell All!

As far as stops on someone else’s journey to find statistically unlikely-to-last love on television go, The Men/Women Tell All specials are always my favorite part — juicy revelations, confrontations, and heretofore unseen (and highly entertaining) moments! But I don’t remember a special ever delivering quite so much in all those departments as this one did. In fact, this made me like this season — and all of the guys not named Justin or Frank — approximately 63 percent more than I did before. Kasey’s the best sport ever! Craig R. is a stud! Jesse’s even hotter without hair! »

In the face of such demands, Gia totally panics and freaks out. At first, she says "No." But then, under the pressure of reality television, Gia relents, kisses her husband, and promises to be »

'American Idol': Nigel Lythgoe close to signing on as executive producer

9 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"So You Think You Can Dance" judge and producer Nigel Lythgoe is considering a return to his roots.

After departing from "American Idol" at the end of Season 7, The Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed reveals that he's nearing a deal to come back as executive producer.

And this is not good news for the current judging panel. Lythgoe told Zap2it in April that if he were responsible for casting the show, he'd replace all of them. He cited Elton John and Usher as top picks for new blood and expressed an interest in rehiring Paula Abdul.

It may be too late for Abdul -- she's already moved on to her own CBS series -- but Elton John is another matter. THR also reports that "American Idol" creator and producer Simon Fuller is making ovations to the iconic British singer. And another name added to the list of candidates? Justin Timberlake. »
