Let's play a game...
by Tianran Duan

Performance art as well as interactive art, Tianran Duan will be playing you in a game of Go, a strategic board game for two players. Tianran’s pieces are constructed of ice while you, the opponent, will have traditional solid pieces.

Tianran Duan, a second year graduate student in animation program in USC. He is interested in experimental animation and contemporary arts and tries to find an aesthetic bridge through both Western culture and Asian culture.

Concepts for Elusia

Jacqueline Jocson is a concept artist specializing in 2D and 3D creature and character design for film and games. She graduated from University of Houston in 2008 with BFA in Photography and Digital Media, and will graduate in 2011 from University of Southern California with a MFA in Animation and Digital Media.

Jacqueline’s invented world, Elusia, is an allegorical translation of her life. Through the constructed landscapes and creatures in her work, she documents her states of mind and being that reflect aspects of herself, people, and world around her.

Jacqueline has worked for Easley-Dunn Productions, USC Gamepipe Lab, and USC Interactive Media. She received the Harold Loyd Scholarship in 2009. Her work can be found at http://jaxj.net

Elyse Kelly is in her second year at the University of Southern California studying for a Masters in Animation & Digital Arts. She graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture. Her work gravitates towards illustrating those two loves, animation + architecture, and finding underlying themes with which to connect them.

Willie Williams is an artist from Corpus Christi, Texas who’s currently a MFA animation student at The University of Southern California. His emphasis is in relief and digital printmaking. His content is based on identity and social issues within urban living.

Untitled Explorations
by Emily Henricks

An undetermined exploration of a creative process and expression with imagery, words, and sounds. I plan on documenting (via lists, photographs, videos, drawings, sounds, etc.) my creative process, trying to find things that inspire me and make me feel passionate about creating something, and where all of these explorations lead me to a certain endpoint.

Emily Henricks is a graduate student of animation at USC. She is interested in exploring new methods of visual creation and the convergence of imagery with sound. She is currently exploring personal processes and methods that stimulate a creative reaction.

Urban Boundaries

A projected animated sequence that will be displayed over simple, yet layered, geometric 3D volumes in the installation space.

Jordan Prieto was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and has primarily lived in Texas for most of his life. He received a bachelor degree in Environmental Design from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas and is currently a second year MFA student at the University of Southern California in the John C. Hench Division of Animation and Digital Arts. His focus is primarily on visual effects, digital animation, and creating environments.

Up and Down
by Yin Tang

Up and Down is an installation using a projector to project animation on the ground to make people who stand inside its perimeter feel like flying up and falling down.

Yin Tang is an animator from China studying at USC. Most of her work focuses on the combination of traditional Chinese art with modern art. She is also interested in visual effects.

TOY

TOY is an interactive installation where the participant will play a toy to create an abstract film.

Chia-Lin Tseng is second year animation graduated students. She is interested in exploring diversity of art form and creating a variety of films.

ZoetrOCEAN

ZoetrOCEAN is an ocean-inspired kinetic sculpture, which is based on the optical principles of the zoetrope and persistence of vision.

Before pursuing her MFA at the University of Southern California, Sara Spink studied and taught animation at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. She loves creating animation in outdoor environments. Her current work is very much inspired by marine life and coastal geography.

As Green As We Make It

A projection of what happens as another tree is erased from our world.

Born in Los Angeles, and raised in Florida, Laura Stephens is a graduate of both the University of Michigan and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. After studying creative writing, music composition, and art, Laura enjoys combining her talents to create stories and animations that have a moral meaning. Laura is proud to experiment in new mediums provided by USC’s Division of Animation and Digital Arts, and is continually interested in expanding her horizons.

Our Lady of Olathe

Lauren R. Brown was born and raised in New Orleans. She earned her bachelor's degree in Communications: Film, TV, Video at Centenary College of Louisiana and is now pursuing her master's degree in animation at the University of Southern California. Her interests include stop motion animation and 3D projection. Lauren interned with producer and children's book author William Joyce for three years and at Reel FX Studios in Dallas. Elizabeth Willy is a fine artist and filmmaker. Currently, she is working on her MFA at USC's School of Cinematic Arts in the John C. Hench Animation and Digital Arts Program. She is interested in hand-drawn 2D animation as well as 3D animation and visual effects techniques. Her artworks usually incorporate spirituality, dreams, mysticism, belief or illusion.
