CEENV SCA 2009

Twelve student filmmakers sponsored by the Center for Educational Exchange with Viet Nam (CEEVN) arrive at USC on May 31. The group starts the six-week  production workshop June 1. It continues through July 12.

During classes and production three current SCA students, Phan Linh, Quynh Ha and Thai Ha interpret for the group.

 

Shooting begins at several locations in and around USC including the roof of the downtown Baltimore Hotel, a commercial downtown L.A. loft, SCA's Robert Zemeckis stage, the SCA copy center, Leavey Library Reflecting Pool and University Village's laundromat.

Filmmakers finish the fourth week of classes and production of their projects.
The completed videos are shown at a specially arranged screening at the Motion Picture Academy on July 10.

The students shoot three short scripted video projects with the participating filmmakers assuming numerous crew positions including director, assistant director, director of photography, sound recording and mixing, editing and production design.

In addition to lead production instructors Michael Uno, associate professor; Chris Chomyn, senior lecturer; The students have editing sessions with associate professor Norman Hollyn; sound design with adjunct production faculty member Lou Kleinman and lessons from production designer Tom Walsh and others.

The group receives special sightseeing tours at Warner Bros. studio, Rhythm & Hues Visual Effects studio, Panavision and the CineGear Expo.

 

The students are scheduled to return to Viet Nam on July 11.
