Student Profiles

FRANCE

Michelle
Michelle is currently studying at the University of Paris 1—Pantheon Sorbonne, as a first year student in Film Studies. She would eventually like to get a master’s degree in film studies either in the U.S. or the United Kingdom. She has been directing short movies since the age of 12 and would like to be a professional screenwriter and director. Michelle goes to the movies several times a week, plays the guitar and enjoys reading.

Marie-Claire
Marie-Claire is in her first year at Brevet de Technicien Superieur, a program in Audiovisual Studies with a major in Production Management. When she completes the program she hopes to get into the Parisian cinema school, Femis. She has directed several short films and has worked as a screenwriter, editor, cinematographer and sound mixer. She would eventually like to be a director.
She is very interested in American cinema and cites Thelma and Louise, Kill Bill and westerns among her favorite genres. Marie-Claire plays guitar and the violin, sings and has been active in the theatre for several years.

Thomas
Thomas is enrolled in the Lycee Paul Valery as a first year "class preparatoire" student in Film Studies, and next year he plans to study English at the University of Paris III. His eventual goal is to become a screenwriter and a director. Like Marie-Claire, Thomas has a strong admiration for American movies since he feels that French films "end up perpetually gazing at their own navel and contemplating their own fate." Although he acknowledges the talents of Renoir, Truffaut and Resnais, he seems to prefer Coppola, Scorcese, De Palma and Eastwood. Thomas also enjoys playing the guitar, writing songs and novels, directing short movies and horseback riding.

This bi-national Fulbright program is funded jointly by the U.S. and partner governments.
