D-Clearance Procedures

Undergraduate SCA Students

Fall 2010

For Cinematic Arts (Critical Studies and Production) students, requests for D-Clearance for CTCS and CTPR (including 241/290) coursework will be issued during your academic advisement appointment. To set up an advisement appointment please refer to the advisement schedule. D-clearance for CTPR 310, CTPR 376, CTPR 480 and CTWR 414 is by assignment and will not be given out during academic advisement.

Non-majors may submit d-clearance requests for CTCS and CTPR coursework starting Wednesday, April 7. Non-majors must submit a d-clearance form in-person to Student Services in CTV G-130.

The Divisions of Animation and Digital Arts, Interactive Media and Writing will begin D-clearance processing for Non-Majors, including Critical Studies and Production students, in their respective offices on Wednesday, April 7, 2010.

Returning Students Who are not Enrolled this Fall:

  • If you are on a one-semester leave of absence you may follow the schedule for currently enrolled students.
  • If you are in the second semester (or later) of a leave, you may request D-clearances beginning April 27.

The Following Critical Studies Courses Require D-Clearance:

  • CTCS 473 - Film Theories
  • CTCS 495 - Senior Honors Seminar

D-Clearance Procedures for Minors/Non-Majors for Elective CTPR Courses:

  • D-clearances will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning Wednesday, April 7.
  • Check the Fall 2010 SCA Non-Major Brochure or 2009-2010 USC Catalogue to verify if you are eligible to take a particular course.

M.F.A. PRODUCTION STUDENTS

Fall 2010

Effective Fall 2010, CTPR D-clearances will be processed via the SCA Community. D-clearance requests will be processed by 5:30 P.M. the following business day. (All times listed are Pacific Standard.)

D-clearances for CTWR 533a and CTWR 533b will be administered via the SCA Community as they are production-only courses. D-clearances for all other non-CTPR coursework will be administered by the corresponding departmental offices started April 7th.

The Office of Student Industry Relations processes D-clearance requests for the Business of Entertainment Concentration Program courses (CTPR 562, CNTV 525, CTPR 563, CNTV 524). To request clearance for one of these courses, please visit their office in SCA 235. You will not submit an online request for these courses.

D-clearances for CTPR 507, CTPR 508, CTPR 509 andCTPR 510 are by assignment and are not processed via the SCA Community.

D-clearances for CTPR 546 and CTPR 547 are processed after crews have been finalized. You will not submit an online request for these courses.

CTPR 581, CTPR 582, CTPR 583, CTPR 585 and CTPR 587 have seperate registration approval procedures and D-clearances are submited in-person after completing the required paperwork. You will not submit an online request for these courses.

D-clearances for non-major coursework (CTAN, CTCS, CTWR, CTIN) will be administered through the Program Offices beginning Wednesday, April 7, 2010.

D-Clearance Guidelines:

  • Graduate students may request up to 8 units of CTPR D-clearances, including no more than two of the intermediate production seminars: CTPR 532, CTPR 535, CTPR 537, CTPR 538 and CTPR 540.
  • You cannot request d-clearance for more than one section of the same course.
  • It is the student's responsibility to verify that there are no conflicting class times on their schedule.
  • Please note the pre-requisites listed for each course before submitting your d-clearance request.
  • CTPR D-clearances expire earlier than the university registration deadline. You must register by the D-clearance expiration date listed on the SCA Community.
  • It is your responsibility to check your D-clearance status and the registration deadline on the SCA Community. Your request will be processed by 5:30 P.M. the business day following your submission and posted under "My Account," "D-Clearance Information" on the SCA Community.
  • If you do not receive D-clearance you must register for alternate classes (i.e. USC 100) and settle your bill by Friday, August 20, 2010 to avoid late fees. The School of Cinematic Arts will not waive late fees.
  • Even if you are registered, you must attend the first meeting of each course or you will be replaced by a student on the waitlist.
  • Refer to the priority schedule below to see when you can submit an online D-clearance request for CTPR classes to the Office of Student Affairs.

Note: If you cannot obtain all of the required approvals by the registration deadline, you must register and pay for an alternate course (e.g., USC 100) to avoid a late fee. The School of Cinematic Arts will not waive late fees for students who submit their D-clearance request after the registration deadline. After August 20, 2010, D-clearance requests will only be processed in person with instructor approval.
