Community Interaction

DOC encourages positive interaction with the community as we strive to promote public safety, community protection, and public understanding.

Alternative Sentencing - HB6639 - known as FOSA

FOSA allows judges to waive a sentence within the standard sentence range and impose 12 months of community custody along with conditions for treatment and programming for eligible offenders facing a prison sentence. The law was effective June 10, 2010. FOSA may be used for offenders who commit an offense on or after June 10, 2010. A FOSA Brochure is now available.

Washington State's Re-entry Initiative

These programs include:

  • Offender Crews - Work includes roadside litter cleanup, wildlife habitat restoration, forest-fire suppression, graffiti removal and landscaping.
  • Sex Offender Treatment - Sex offender treatment and community protection.
  • Work Release - Expanding the DOC work release program for public safety.
