All proposals must be submitted online through e-Commissioning for BBC network content on TV and all other video platforms (e.g. websites, mobile, interactive TV).

Prior to submitting a proposal you must register for the system. You only need to do this once, though you can amend your registration information whenever you wish.

Please read theTerms and Conditions and A Guide to Registering as A Supplier. You can find more information on the registration process here.

Background

The BBC has updated its commissioning process by introducing an online system for submitting proposals. e-Commissioning enables the BBC to handle the huge volume of proposals it receives faster and more effectively so producers submitting proposals to BBC Vision will find they have a quicker response.

Rather than replacing any of the creative conversations BBC Commissioning teams have with producers, the system is designed simply to make the process of filtering and comparing ideas much easier. As a result, creating more time for creative discussion around the best of those ideas.

Face to face conversations will always enhance an idea, but we receive up to 10,000 proposals a year and time with Commissioners is limited so meetings will always be based on the merit of the idea submitted.

System Features:

  • Design that enables multi-platform content commissioning across BBC Vision
  • Online progress tracking of Suppliers' proposals providing greater convenience to both Producers and Commissioners
  • Secure system to protect the confidentiality of ideas - proposals can only be seen by the relevant people in commissioning and the person submitting the idea
  • Better consistency: BBC in-house production studios and independent suppliers will all use the same system

Once you have registered as a supplier, you can submit proposals whenever you want. Full information on submitting proposals is available here.

Which System?

  • e-Commissioning covers ideas for network content on TV and all other video platforms (e.g. websites, mobile, interactive TV)
  • New Media OCS continues to serve independent suppliers submitting technology and software ideas
  • Programme proposals for BBC radio must be submitted via RAP. If this is your first time producing programmes for us, please apply for a RAP log-in here.

IT System Requirements

BBC e-Commissioning has been extensively tested on Windows and Mac OS X. We recommend using one of the following Internet Browsers:

  • Safari 1.5+, 2.0+ (for Mac OS X)
  • Firefox 1.5+, 2.0+ (for Mac OS X and Windows)
  • MS Internet Explorer 6.0/7.0 (for Windows)

The site has not yet been tested on Safari 3.0 beta for Mac OS XP or Windows though no issues are envisaged with this browser.

Mac OS 9.0+ users may encounter difficulties with site content. Firefox may be a preferable browser for Mac OS 9.0+ users.

To allow the site to function correctly:

  • Security software must be set to identify https://ssl.bbc.co.uk/ecommissioning/ as a trusted site
  • Pop-Ups must be enabled at all levels i.e. on the internet browser and on any additional toolbars which may be installed such as Google Toolbar and Yahoo Toolbar.

System updates and new features

12 May 2010: Following feedback from this year's Indie Survey and Independent and BBC suppliers, we are aiming to introduce some amendments and improvements to the e-commissioning system in the coming months. We will notify users via this newsletter as improvements are rolled out and you can find out more information on any changes in this section. We hope that you will find that these changes improve your user experience of the system. If you have any feedback please email ecomm.admin@bbc.co.uk

Logging into the e-commissioning system

Log in to e-Commissioning

You can now log in to the e-commissioning system via the new green log-in button displayed on all the e-commissioning information pages.

  • Handy hint: you can drag and drop this button on to your computer desktop to quickly access the log-in page on return visits to the site.

Firefox browser compatibility with the 'Print Proposal' button

The "Print Proposal" button on the proposal submission form should now work fine with Mozilla internet browsers when using the e-commissioning system. Some users had found that this button incorrectly redirected users to the BBC home-page when selected.

Registration

You can access the system and register by choosing "Register as a Supplier" here:
