Goals and Strategic Plan

High-priority programs and initiatives advance the five goals contained in the Department of Corrections Strategic Plan:

  • Increase recruitment and retention of diverse, qualified, competent and valued staff.
  • Maintain safe work environments for staff.
  • Develop improved business practices and tools that are responsive, effective and efficient.
  • Maintain offender safety during incarceration and supervision.
  • Increase successful re-entry of offenders to communities

By advancing the above goals, the Department will achieve its ultimate goal of making the public safer.

  • Accountability - Delivering results to the people of Washington State.
  • Offender Management System - A new, web-based, offender tracking system in development.
  • Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 - A federal law that prohibits and seeks to eliminate sexual assaults and sexual misconduct in correctional institutions and community corrections settings.
  • Re-entry Initiative - Improving public safety by providing offenders with programs that reduce their chances of reoffending after release.
