The 2000 U.S. Senate election for the state of Rhode Island was held November 7, 2000. The incumbent Senator Lincoln Chafee was re-elected for the first time after being appointed in 1999 to fill the seat of his father John Chafee. He handily defeated Congressman Robert Weygand to win his first term.
