Saint-Jean-de-Luz (Basque Donibane Lohizune) is a commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in south-western France.

It is in the traditional province of Lapurdi of the Basque Country.

Saint-Jean-de-Luz is a fishing port on the Basque coast and now a famous resort, known for its architecture, sandy bay, the quality of the light and the cuisine. The town is located south of Biarritz, on the right bank of the river Nivelle (French for Urdazuri) opposite to Ciboure. The port lies on the estuary just before the river joins the ocean.

The summit of La Rhune is situated approximately 8 km (5.0 mi) to the south-east of the town. The summit can be reached by the Petit train de la Rhune, which commences from the Col de Saint-Ignace, 10.6 km (6.6 mi) to the east of the town on the D4 road to Sare.

Easily one of the most attractive cities in the Basque Country, from its cozy beach to its alluring downtown, Saint-Jean-de-Luz is a jewel in the Basque Country. This pretty small beach city is just dripping with charm, from its port lined with colorful boats to its boutique shops selling surfing gear and lessons year-round.

Saint-Jean-de-Luz is the last major town before heading south into Spain and neighboring Saint-Sebastian (well worth a day trip). While Bayonne, its more populated neighbor, is showing its age, Saint-Jean-de-Luz is as clean as a crisp, white French table linen. The delightful squares, quaint pedestrian shopping area and the covered market all equal a visit that is sure to be unforgettable.

The small city has an endearing and inviting charm to it. The only downside is a serious lack of parking, which is especially a nuisance during the peak tourist season.
