John Cabot University is a private American liberal arts university located in Rome, Italy. Founded in 1972, it was named after the Italian explorer Giovanni Caboto.

Location

John Cabot University is located in the neighborhood of Trastevere--the Transtiber of the ancient Romans. The campus is near the compound of the Italian National Academy of Sciences. The University also recently inaugurated the Tiber Campus, near the Guarini Campus on Via della Lungara, which continues to serve JCU. The new building overlooks the Tiber River on the outside and the shops of Trastevere on the inside. Campus facilities include computer labs and Wi-Fi. The Frohring Library has online resources and databases.

Degrees

John Cabot University confers the Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in Art History, Business Administration, Finance, English, Humanistic Studies, International Affairs, Italian Studies, Communications, Marketing, History, International Business, and Political Science. There is also a two-year program leading to the Associate of Arts degree. Students may also choose to participate in the University of Wales Validation Program in Business Administration, Political Science and International Affairs. Students graduating in this program receive both a John Cabot degree and a British Honours degree from the University of Wales.

Faculty

Over 100 multicultural and multilingual faculty members teach at JCU, with over 75 percent of non-language instructors holding PhDs, JDs, and MFAs from some of the world’s most prestigious institutions.

Student body

The average class size is 15,[1] resulting in a more personal classroom experience. Students are from Italy, the United States, and over 50 other countries.

The University provides a range of student services, and activities such as student government, student newspaper, Model UN, Universities Fighting World Hunger, the Italian Culture Club, STAND, soccer, and the Environmental Club.

Accreditation and licensing

John Cabot University is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

The University is incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in the State of Delaware and is licensed to award its degrees by the Delaware Department of Education. It is authorized by the Italian Ministry of Education to operate as a four-year American liberal arts college in Italy.

Study abroad

In addition to its full time degree-seeking students, the University also hosts study-abroad students from select colleges across the United States including: Saint Mary's College of California, Cornell University, University of Wisconsin, University of Michigan, Connecticut College, Marquette University, Hiram College, University of Denver, Emory University, Western Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Michigan State University, Villanova University, American University, University of Portland, University of Alabama, University of Dayton, St. Mary's University[disambiguation needed], Bryant University, Stonehill College, University of Massachusetts, Wesley College, Northeastern University , and the University of Notre Dame.[2]
