Bukit Mertajam

Bukit Mertajam is the capital of Central Seberang Perai, Penang, Malaysia. It is commonly known as BM among its locals.

The historical St. Anne's Church is situated in Bukit Mertajam. Bukit Mertajam High School (established 18 January, 1927) and Jit Sin High School, which are among the top-performing schools in the country, are both located in Bukit Mertajam. BM High School is also the alma mater of former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and former Deputy Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim .

Bukit Mertajam is also only a plane ride away from the War Museum at Bukit Batu Maung, which was previously the site of a 1930s British submarine pen. The submarine pen was built to protect Penang Island from roving pirates. Another option is to drive to the island using the Penang Bridge.

Imuda or Abdul Rahim Bin Muda is a popular Malaysian actor was born here. He is fairly recognized through the 1990s sitcoms such as Pi Mai Pi Mai Tang Tu and 2+1. International Sound Artist Goh Lee Kwang was born and lived in Permatang Batu, Bukit Mertajam. The 2008 Olympics silver medalist for badminton, Datuk Lee Chong Wei was also born here and was a former student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Berapit, Bukit Mertajam. There is a government general hospital in Bukit Mertajam which is known as Bukit Mertajam Hospital.
