Crime is down in Miami
BY MIGUEL EXPOSITO
This past November marked the one-year anniversary of my swearing-in as chief of the Miami Police Department. It has been remarkably rewarding to lead an agency that employs some of the most dedicated and professional men and women I have ever worked with during my 36-year law-enforcement career.

BROWARD COUNTY
MAKE ACCESS TO THE NEW RIVER GREENWAY SAFER Somebody wasn't thinking. Turns out that people who want to enjoy the bike and pedestrian path along the New River Canal and Interstate 595 have to take their lives into their hands to do it. They have to cross busy six- to eight-lane streets to get to the path. There are no crosswalks, no overpasses, nothing to facilitate access. -

Beaches still contaminated
It seems from the news coverage of the BP oil spill that everything is cleaned up and things are back to normal, but they aren't. In Panama City Beach this past weekend, tar balls were still all over the beach and the stench was enough to ruin a wedding that was planned to take place on the beach. These beaches are the most beautiful in our state, and probably the world, and they are still being contaminated.
