Tunisia revolt sets alight a tinderbox as suicidal protests sweep the Arab world

Two more Egyptians tried to burn themselves to death yesterday as grim protests inspired by the Tunisian uprising spread across the Arab world.

Mohammed Farouq el-Sayed, a lawyer, set himself ablaze outside the Prime Minister’s office in Cairo and was taken to hospital. A second man, Sayed Ali Sayed, 65, a retired accountant, carried cans of petrol to the Parliament building near by, but was arrested before he could set himself on fire.

In Alexandria Ahmed Hashim al-Sayyed, a 25-year-old unemployed man who slashed his wrists and set himself on fire on Monday died of his injuries yesterday.
