Wikipedia:Bounty board
Would you like to improve articles without having to write them? Or have you ever wanted to make money for Wikimedia without paying it yourself? Now you can do both! |
The Wikipedia Bounty Board allows any user to post monetary bounties for completing Wikipedia-related tasks. If the Bounty Hunters complete the task, the person offering the bounty – known as the Bounty Keeper – donates the bounty money to the Wikimedia Foundation in the name of the Bounty Hunters who worked so hard on the task. The Wikimedia Foundation is the non-profit organization which runs Wikipedia. (Donating money in the name of someone else is called alternative giving.)
Normally the task is to improve an article to either good article or featured article status. (Good articles are well-sourced articles covering all major aspects of a topic, and have no major problems. Featured articles are the best articles Wikipedia has to offer and are formally peer-reviewed by Wikipedians.)
- How to make an offer
-
- Add your request to the list below. Please include your username and the name of the page you want to place a bounty on.
- If you like, add the {{bounty}} template to the talk page and {{bountywp}} to related wikiprojects.
- Wait for the article to improve.
- Make your donation to the Wikimedia Foundation.
If you have questions about how this system works, check out the talk page. If you would like to post or seek a reward in which the gift is made to the editors rather than the Foundation, please see the Wikipedia:Reward board instead.

If you would like to be a Bounty Hunter, just sign up here and get to work on one of the bounties!
|
Unless otherwise stated, these bounties are for promoting the article to featured article status before the bounty's expiration date.
[edit] Remote Desktop Manager
- Amount
- US$200 for getting the article. Bonus of 100$ if you add an article for the company Devolutions inc.
- Bounty offerer
- User:dhervieux
- Expiration
- 15 June 2011
- Note
- Give a neutral description of the product and the company Devolutions inc.
[edit] Blood donation
- Amount
- US$100 for getting the article to FA status. $50 bonus if the article is the featured article on the 14th of June, 2011.
- Bounty offerer
- User:SDY
- Expiration
- 15 June 2011
- Note
- There is already a substantial article which I've spent some time with, but I'm too much of a WP:Wikisloth to actually truck it through the FA process. The 14th is a relevant day (World Blood Donor Day) so requesting this as a FA on that particular day is not arbitrary or ridiculous.
[edit] Ted Frank and Center for Class Action Fairness
- Amount
- US$180 for each article improved to GA (US$360 total)
- Bounty offerer
- User:THF
- Expiration
- 28 February 2011
- Notes
- Articles already exist, but suffer from poor copyediting, some accuracy issues, and some weird choices in emphasis. RS available at http://tedfrank.com/press. Email me if you can't get to gated press coverage. I'm presuming (in good faith, perhaps mistakenly) that my COI does not prohibit making a bounty request, because I'm necessarily asking for compliance with Wikipedia policies, and meeting the GA condition is decided by a third party.
[edit] Usability

[edit] Rod Serling
- Amount
- US$1000
- Bounty offerer
- Twilight Bounty (talk)
- Expiration
- N/A
- Notes
- This is a legitimate offer despite my lack of contributions (in the form of edits or donations, actually) to Wikipedia/Wikimedia in the past. Please see my user page for details if you're curious and/or suspicious. At any rate, I was trying to decide on an article and was horrified at the references, or rather lack thereof, here. To see this article on Wikipedia's main page some day would be wonderful; show the man proper respect with page numbers from actual books and the like and I'll be happy though.

[edit] EssayBot

- Bounty offerer ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 02:22, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
- Expiration date Until complete.
- Notes: Develop a bot for WP:ESSAY C/C (and get it approved) that will crawl all Wikipedia essays in Category:Wikipedia essays, add the {{essaysort}} tag to the talk pages of essays that do not have one, and assign an importance rating according to our scale (which is based on the number of incoming Wikilinks). If interested, notify ɳorɑfʈ Talk! on his talk page before beginning work.
[edit] Transwiki watchlist tool
- Amount: $50 USD
- Bounty offerer MrZaiustalk 11:12, 15 May 2009 (UTC) (Anyone else want in? Surely I'm not the only one who'd want this.)
- Expiration date Projected retirement date, ~2038 - Maximum of a single payout.
- Notes: Develop an open-source, web-based tool or mediawiki extension allowing for aggregating watchlists from multiple sites accessible from the tool's host (ie, a corporate intranet). Preexisting stand-alone client side tools and/or browser extensions are unacceptable solutions to this problem due to security reasons and lack of portability. While it would be acceptable for the watchlist tool to be limited in scope to Wikimedia projects, it would be much preferred if it were able to also parse Wikia and unaffiliated hosts's watchlists.
Bonus! $15 extra for a tool that mimicks popups with tools in a host-neutral manner.
Done
Introducing Watchlistr - a transwiki watchlist tool. It can parse any mediawiki-based wiki, but currently only includes the Wikimedia projects (because I'm not sure what other wikis would be good to include). Does not currently mimic Popups, but it's only in Beta (so that might be a future addition). I'm still doing some testing on it, so you might encounter some error messages here and there — tell me if you come across any. Also, let me know if there's anything else you would like added to it.
Cat1205123 (talk) 17:14, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- Does this require an editor to enter their Wikipedia username and password? I'd be somewhat concerned about sharing the password with an outside site; this was an issue in the past with various studies and other software. Risker (talk) 18:51, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
-
-
- It does, I'm afraid. As there is no way to see other users' watchlists, we have to log in as you to download it. I've detailed how we store the passwords (securely) here. I'd also be willing to release the source code if someone would like to do a code audit (which might not be a bad thing). Cat1205123 (talk) 05:56, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- Update: Pending code audit, I have disabled registrations and removed all users from the database. MrZaius — you may end up having to keep your $50. I tried the most secure way of producing a transwiki watchlist tool, but even then received a rather massive backlash from the community. It would appear that there is, currently, no way to do this securely enough for everyone. Cat1205123 (talk) 06:37, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Great to see some progress here. While security concerns from automated attacks may be relevant here, it is nice to see the tool's sourced released and available for private hosting. Wouldn't use this as a service myself for precisely the same reasons described above, but intend to test this on personally controlled hosting account in mid-August after a brief wikibreak. Thanks, MrZaiustalk 09:27, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

- Update (again): So, it turns out that the devs added functionality to MediaWiki (and my extension, Wikipedia, et. al.) for pulling watchlists without requiring a password some time ago. Now, instead of requiring a password, it uses a token that can be found under My Preferences -> Watchlist. I am updating/have updated Watchlistr to incorporate these changes. It's currently usable now, but I'm still making some transitions, pulling some old code, etc. - and it should be 100% ready in a few days! Cat1205123 (talk) 23:42, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
