Venado is an unincorporated community in Sonoma County, California, United States. Venado had a post office from 1921 to 1941.[2]

William J. March built the first sawmill in the Russian River area in 1849 with the help of Samuel Heald (brother of Harmon). Built near the end of what would become Mill Creek Road, it was this mill and the rural residents that settled along its road that became the community of Venado.
