Stormwater safety

Stormwater systems, whether they are open channels or underground tunnels, are dangerous. They can flood quickly and without warning which can be fatal.

Apart from authorised Sydney Water crews, no one should enter manholes in roads, pavements and public areas.

Sydney Water's open concrete stormwater channels are fenced off and signs are in place to warn people of the dangers of entering the system.

Please call Sydney Water urgently on 13 20 90 (24 hours) if you see anyone entering a manhole illegally. Your contact details can be kept confidential and your help may prevent deaths.

All reports of illegal entry to Sydney Water's stormwater systems will be investigated and reports relating to council stormwater drains will be referred to the relevant council or police.
