Music business

...with the growthThe music business, as one of the largest components of the UK's creative industries, is an essential part of the UK's culture and economy.

Record labels - BPI member companies - are an important part of a complex creative business whose origins can be traced back over two hundred years. In the late 19th century the business was dominated by publishers of sheet music, but by the mid 20th century records had become the dominant musical platform.

Over the past ten years, with the growth of digital music and the live scene, the UK's music business has changed significantly. The online sphere, and the proliferation of online copyright infringement, has damaged the business but also provided exciting new opportunities for music delivery.

In all respects, the UK's music business is an exciting and innovative industry.
