    Incredibly close to the heart

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is the type of film listed under the entry "Oscar bait" in the motion picture dictionary.

Starring Academy Award mainstays Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock in a film about the World Trade Center attacks, the moving movie explores the modern-day tragedy through the eyes of an 11-year-old boy. Though previous works related to 9/11 weren't smashing successes, Los Angeles Times critic Betsy Sharkey felt this movie's gravitas:  " Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close won’t be the last cinematic word on 9/11, but it proves an eloquent one."

Shame follows the roadmap for addiction dramas, but pares the formula down to its most basic elements, according to Dispatch critic Frank Gabrenya. The film by British director Steve McQueen follows Brandon (Michael Fassbender) through his battle with sex addiction. Gabrenya rated Shame two stars.

    TIMEFORKIDS.COM

Honeybee colonies across the country have been dying off at high rates in recent years. Scientists have been working on the problem, but have not found a solution. Until recently, they have been looking at factors such as pesticides, fungi and viruses to explain the honeybee die-off. Now, researchers at San Francisco State University have found a new possible cause of the problem — a parasitic fly.
