In what appears Not to be an April Fool’s Day joke, Ashton Kutcher is set to play Steve Jobs in an upcoming indie pic from Swing Vote director Joshua Michael Stern, EW confirms.

The film, titled Jobs, will be written by Matt Whiteley and chronicle the late Jobs’ journey “from wayward hippie to co-founder of Apple,” according to Variety, who first reported the news. Did The 2012 Cannes Competition Lineup Just Get Leaked?

3 hours ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The internet is abuzz with an alleged leak from the Cannes Film Festival that saw a list of 24 films apparently making up its official 2012 competition listed on the official Cannes site and then quickly removed. The list is now making the rounds, having been re-posted on French blog Blog du Festival de Cannes. There's been considerable skepticism about whether or not it's legitimate, most notably because there's still nearly 3 weeks before Cannes is set to announce the lineup (on April 19th) and that the festival is said to still be screening films. This suggests there's no way a competition lineup could be near complete. There's also a few films in the leak many have suggested will not be ready for Cannes, such as Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master" and Terrence Malick's untitled Ben Affleck-Rachel McAdams romance (officially listed as "The Burial" on the leak). Alternatively, Walter Salles »

Don Rickles To Receive Big Comedy Award

4 hours ago | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Comedy Central announced Monday that Don Rickles will receive The Johnny Carson Award For Comedic Excellence at the upcoming 2012 Comedy Awards. Rickles is the second recipient of the honor, after David Letterman received the award at the 2011 ceremony.

At the ceremony, which will be taped in New York City on April 28 and will air on Comedy Central on May 6, "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart is scheduled to present the award to Rickles.

Rickles, 85, has been performing stand-up comedy since the early 1950s. He quickly developed a reputation as an "insult comedian," throwing out razor-sharp barbs at audience members as a trademark of his act. As a result of befriending Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, he has been a headliner in Las Vegas since he first performed there in 1959.

His first appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" came in 1965, introducing him to a national audience. He went on »

Report: James Cameron Wants To Return To ‘Aliens’ Mode With ‘Prometheus’ Sequel

4 hours ago | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

Update: Insiders tell me that James Cameron was making a slightly humorous off handed comment about making a Prometheus sequel and they’d be surprised if it amounted to anything, considering how busy the director will be preoccupied with Avatar sequels. Earlier: Here is a shocker. James Cameron tells The Guardian that after making a groundbreaking sequel to Ridley Scott’s classic film Alien, he now says he wants to make the sequel to Prometheus, Scott’s return to that hallowed ground. The proximity to April Fools always heightens one’s skepticism, but Cameron was out stumping for the 3D conversion of Titanic and when the journalist, Henry Barnes, directly quotes Cameron, you’ve got to pay attention. “There’s a gap of a few years between Prometheus and the original Alien,” Cameron told The Guardian. “That gap is meant for me to answer all the questions raised in Prometheus. »

6 hours ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

In a lengthy essay posted yesterday on his official Facebook fan page, filmmaker Tyler Perry recounted a recent confrontation with law enforcement officers after he was allegedly pulled over and interrogated by police in Atlanta.

According to the post, Perry was leaving his studio when he made an illegal turn in order to ensure that he was not being followed. Two police officers pulled Perry over and purportedly pressed him about his actions, calling attention to his tinted windows and expressing their suspicion at why Perry believed he was being followed. A third officer arrived and seemingly explained who Perry was, »

Jack and Jill, Sony’s comedy starring Adam Sandler, may have one of the lowest Rotten Tomatoes scores of 2011 at three percent, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t win any awards. The comedy about a reunion between a twin brother and sister (both played by Sandler) has broken a record by winning every category at the Razzies, the annual awards show honoring the worst films of the year. Current TV CEO Joel Hyatt told staffers in a company-wide e-mail Monday that Current would not engage in a public spat with its former primetime host, while taking an indirect shot at the irascible anchor. In the memo, obtained by TheWrap, Hyatt says Current will respond to Olbermann "in the appropriate forum," a reference to Olbermann’s disparagement of his former bosses on Twitter Friday. He also cited an old legal aphorism: When the law is on your side, pound on the law. When the facts are on your side, pound on the »

Poll: Can Community Survive (Perhaps Even Thrive) Without Chevy Chase's Pierce?

1 hour ago | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

You couldn’t have Bones without Bones. You couldn’t have 2 Broke Girls without two broke girls. You couldn’t have Dexter without Dexter. But could you have Community without Pierce? Since the comedy is looking pretty good for renewal — and since there’s some, shall we say, backstage tension — it’s a question that may soon have to be answered.

On one hand, it could be argued that the show needs Chevy Chase‘s character — especially since Ken Jeong’s Chang was more or less defanged. Even when Pierce isn’t filling the villain role, the politically incorrect geezer »

Not As Many People Care About The Killing Anymore

1 hour ago | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Who killed Rosie Larsen? Apparently, the answer for more than a few viewers of AMC's The Killing is: Who cares? Sunday's season-two premiere averaged 1.8 million viewers from 8 to 10 p.m., a roughly 20 percent decline from the 2.3 million who showed up for last year's fake-out finale. The show also continues to skew old: Just 661,000, or roughly one third, of the show's overall audience was under 50. In fairness, the 1.8 million pretty much matches the season-one average for the show, as well as the tune-in for the show's penultimate episode. That said, there are many reasons for AMC to be unhappy about last night's ratings.First, cable shows almost always start off with big premiere ratings before trending downward in the following weeks, bouncing back when the finale rolls around. This likely means The Killing will take a dip over the next few weeks, resulting in year-to-year »

Happy Endings' second season draws to a too-soon close on Wednesday, and the show ends this season the same way it ended the last one: with a wedding that brings out the most ridiculous in everyone. 'Two and a Half Men' co-creator apologizes for 'stupid' anti-woman joke

Two and a Half Men co-creator Lee Aronsohn ruffled feathers today when he took aim at this season’s large crop of female-driven comedies — then later apologized for his remarks. “Enough, ladies. I get it. You have periods,” he told The Hollywood Reporter during an interview at this weekend’s Toronto Screenwriting Conference. “We’re approaching peak vagina on television, the point of labia saturation,” he continued.

And while Aronsohn has worked for plenty of female-led series — his resume includes stints at Cybill, Grace Under Fire, and Murphy Brown — he didn’t miss another opportunity to blast the second sex. »

Hammer's horror hit 'Woman In Black' gets a sequel as company begins expanding

One of the great traditions of Hammer Studios is that when you have a hit, you make a sequel.  As a result, I'm not shocked to hear that they announced today that Hammer is going to begin development on "The Woman In Black: Angels Of Death," a follow-up to their hit spring movie, "The Woman In Black." Daniel Radcliffe's first major post-"Harry Potter" performance may have had something to do with the film's international success, but before there was a film, ther was a book, and then there was a stage show, both of which were also very successful.  There was »
