We're Not Getting A Final Fantasy VII Remake For Awhile

If Square Enix decides to remake Final Fantasy VII someday, it'll be once the publisher feels it created a Final Fantasy game that exceeds the quality of the 1997 PlayStation classic.

President and CEO Yoichi Wada discussed the topic of a Final Fantasy VII remake at a recent shareholder's briefing in Japan. According to a translated report by Andriasang, Wada said presently the company "is not making Final Fantasy games that exceed the quality of Final Fantasy VII." If they were to release a VII remake right now, "the Final Fantasy franchise would be done with."

The report also said the staff would happily make a Final Fantasy VII remake. If they decide to do it, they will give their full effort.

  • Ok good, while I agree it should be done, I think if they end the series they should end it with this game. So i'm glad that they are not producing it yet.
  • That's a pretty low bar he's setting.
  • And good luck with that. Final Fantasy is pretty much dead already. The core fanbase left a long time ago, and they've pretty much already shown everyone that they are going the casual route anyways, so no quality FF's anymore.
  • i remember playing the first Disc in one night.

and then i never finished it :( this remake should come faster.

  • JUST PUT THE ORIGINAL ON STEAM. PLEASE.
  • I'd love a FF7 remake, but if Square Enix was putting out high quality RPGs it wouldn't be an issue. How many years has Final Fantasy Versus been in development now?
  • What about an VIII or X remake?
  • Screw FFVII. I want a remake of 6. It's the only Final Fantasy I won't be able to play.
EDIT: Yes, I know it's on PSN, but I still want an HD remake with an orchestrated soundtrack. The absolute best thing about Square Enix games is its music.
  • Well that is too bad. However if thier plan is to create a final fantasy that is on par with VII then i would be all for that.

  • While I would love a remake of VII and VIII, I would love just as much a new Final Fantasy that was actually good. FF13 and FF13-2 were OK, but are a far cry from what one expects from a Final Fantasy game.

  • Totally fine with that. Remake VI instead.
  • I think the last FF games I really enjoyed were X and X-2. XII was well made and good as a game, but lacked the classic sense of FF story, and the soundtrack was lackluster. And XIII . . . just too random in quality. Haven't tried XIII-2 yet, and I don't really care to at this point.
  • In other words, it won't be until they have completely ruined the experience by "modernizing" it. Honestly, Square-Enix doesn't remember how to make a good RPG anymore. They got too caught up in trying to make overly complex stories that make no sense while simultaneously attempting to innovate the gameplay, making it no fun to play. This generation has been downright abysmal for their RPGs.
  • So what he's saying is that because they're releasing games that suck, including the last two FF titles, they can't release a remake of a great game? Yeah, great logic there buddy.
  • How about they concentrate on putting out Final Fantasy games that are more than mediocre for a change?
  • i liked XIII... about to play through FFVII on my PSP from the PSN network once i play through Chrono Trigger on the DS (just started last night). then onto The Legend of Dragoon.
  • They have released a better Final Fantasy game, it just happened to be a few years before it in VI.
  • Oh, so they have to make a game better than one of the best Japanese RPGs ever created. I guess I should keep my PS1 then.

  • Idk why they wont make it.....they are literally sitting on a gold mine this remake would probably be Square Enixs best selling game ever if they would release it.....I guess they dont like making money lol
  • Ugh, it will obviously be a long time to exceed that quality. These recent games haven't really kept me interested like the older ones have.
