And some names are beginning to emerge for who might take the crucial role of Johanna Mason in the film.

'The Amazing Spider-Man': How could its debut stack up against past superhero box office?

22 hours ago | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

When Spider-Man debuted 10 years ago on the first weekend of May, it broke through what seemed at the time to be an unbreakable box-office barrier, becoming the first movie ever to earn over $100 million on its three-day opening weekend — $114.8 million, to be exact. That was a whopping 27 percent improvement over the previous record-holder, 2001′s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, which banked $90.3 million over its first three days of release. A new really high-water mark for box-office achievement had been set, and as Hollywood began to truly understand the financial potential of comic books, the ensuing decade of blockbuster cinema was born. »

Casey Afflect To Write And Direct Josh Hamilton Biopic

17 hours ago | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Baseball player Josh Hamilton's life certainly has all the trappings of a biopic. He was a talented, successful athlete early in his characters, fell victim to addiction, lost it all, only to fight his way back to the top.

It's no wonder that studios would target Hamilton's life for a possible biopic. Deadline is reporting that Casey Affleck will both write and direct a retelling of Hamilton's rise, fall and redemption inside the world of Major League Baseball.

The film would be Affleck's second directorial effort. In 2010, he helmed the faux-documentary with his brother-in-law Joaquin Phoenix "I'm Still Here."

Learn more after the jump!

Producer Basil Iwanyk spoke about the inspiration inherent in the story of Hamilton's early career. "It's also tailor-made for a movie: it has the mythic quality of 'The Natural,' the faith-based angle of 'The Blind Side,' and faith is a major part of our story, »

Tax avoidance, and the secret of bad British film | Marina Hyde

1 hour ago | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The abysmal Britflick was one of the mysteries of the modern age. But the whole business may have been a clever wheeze

Is there a more perfect vignette in the recent career of our rapidly oxidising prime minister than his standing next to Aung San Suu Kyi but being quizzed about Gary Barlow? Over the years, many of us will have beheld certain politicians and wondered: "Do they have any idea what plonkers they are?" One hopes the knowledge eats at them in the silent watches of the night, but the suspicion is that everything from ministerial cars to American bilaterals fools them, and they never really put themselves into perspective.

Occasionally, though, the gods of staging chuck us a bone. And the experience of standing beside the Burmese pro-democracy paragon while reporters asked about his mate from Take That must have brought home to David Cameron his essential smallness. »

Pixar Does It Again! ‘Brave’ Opens Big #1 With $25M Friday And $70M Weekend; ‘Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ Gets Lost

5 hours ago | Deadline Hollywood | See recent Deadline Hollywood news »

Friday 11 Pm: My sources tell me that Pixar’s heroine-in-the-highlands Brave will open to around $70M this weekend and $25M for today. So it’ll be an easy #1 this weekend – incredibly, Pixar’s 13th straight first place finish. That’s just about where DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted opened two weeks ago for distributor Paramount ($60.3M). Looks like concerns that Brave would only appeal to girls and their mothers may have been overplayed. Then again, every Pixar 3D movie has opened to at least $60M. Plus, this is a giant release into 4,164 theaters, 2,790 of which are 3D shows. This is the first anti-princess toon bringing Disney into the 21st Century and audiences responded with CinemaScores of straight ‘A’s. Also just as interesting is the untested mash-up genre. ButtTwentieth Century Fox’s R-rated Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (in 3,106 theaters) only came in 3rd behind DreamWorks »

Rob Reiner Returns To The Thriller Genre With You Belong To Me

9 hours ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Back when Rob Reiner was directing movies like The Princess Bride, Misery, When Harry Met Sally... and A Few Good Men, it was amazing not just because he was producing instant classic after instant classic, but also because he was beholden to no genre. Such has not been the case for the most recent stretch of Reiner's career, however. For the last decade the filmmaker has made only dramedies, with most of them containing some element of romance. It's been hard watching a once great director get stuck in such a deep rut, but now it seems he is finally ready to emerge. Just a few days after it was announced that Reiner will be playing Leonardo DiCaprio's dad in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, THR is reporting that the director is now attached to direct the new thriller You Belong To Me. Keanu Reeves Shows Behind-the-Scenes Camera Work for Directorial Debut, Man Of Tai Chi

After Keanu Reeves enthusiastically professed that he knew kung-fu back in the days of The Matrix , the actor is finally getting back to the martial arts.  Reeves has already wrapped on 47 Ronin, a retelling of the legend of a band of samurai who set out to restore their master's honor.  But Reeves is also working on his directorial debut, Man of Tai Chi, a story revolving around a young martial artist's experiences in Beijing.  The contemporary picture stars Tiger Chen (who worked on the stunt team in The Matrix) as the protagonist with Reeves himself as a villain.  Casting notes aside, Reeves commented on the revolutionary camera work he's using with Man of Tai Chi to both provide a new perspective on the fight scenes while keeping the cast, crew and camera from suffering any damage.  Hit the jump to check out the proof-of-concept videos. Brave Looks Certain To Slay Vampire-Hunter Lincoln

10 hours ago | Studio Briefing - Film News | See recent Studio Briefing - Film News news »

The latest animated spunky princess is virtually certain to assassinate Abraham Lincoln at the box office over the weekend. According to industry pundits, Disney/Pixar’s Brave is likely to earn $60-65 million in its debut, while the 3-D thriller Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is expected to come away with about $15-20 million. A third newcomer, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley, will be opening in far fewer theaters — around 1,600 –and will probably earn about $7 million, tracking surveys indicate. Opening in just five theaters — three in New York and two in Los Angeles — will be Woody Allen’s To Rome with Love, which will likely challenge the major releases in per-theater receipts. Allen’s last movie, Midnight in Paris, opened in six theaters last year and earned an astounding $100,000 in each. It’s due to open wide on July 6. »
