Talk:Kurban Said

One publication, Azerbaijan International, appears to be the major English-language secondary source on the subject, but it's over-represented in this article. The editors request third party input. Chris Troutman (talk) 22:58, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Talk:Simon Wiesenthal

Should the following quotation from Guy Walters be added to the article?

"In my view, Simon Wiesenthal was a liar and a fraud. In fact, I’d go so far as to say he was one of the biggest conmen of the 20th century ... Any man who utters so many untruths does not deserve to be revered." Source: Walters, Guy. "Why I believe the king of the Nazi hunters, Simon Wiesenthal, was a fraud". Daily Mail. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1310725/Why-I-believe-king-Nazi-hunters-Simon-Wiesenthal-fraud.html. Retrieved 20 March 2013. Dianna (talk) 01:32, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

Talk:Lindsay Lohan

I haven't added the "split" tag yet. Back to the point, I've heard a suggestion that, in order to condense size, Lohan's filmography should be split from main article. Thoughts? Extended duration for more talk. --George Ho (talk) 00:44, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Talk:Michael Gambon

I am completely open to including the fact that he self-identifies as English as per the interview, but he also self-identifies as Irish per these interviews:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/theatre/theatre-features/9596580/Michael-Gambon-Trevor-Nunn-and-Eileen-Atkins-on-a-Beckett-weve-never-seen.html
http://www.bbc.co.uk/films/2004/06/01/gary_oldman_michael_gambon_azkaban_interview.shtml
http://www.mugglenet.com/mediasp/2004/november/michaelgambonrobbiecoltrane.shtml

The source that a few editors who hold unwavering nationalistic perspectives is full of contradictions and stems back from 2010, they are using that interview to "trump" a previous one from 2012 regarding him describing himself as Irish, where here www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/theatre/theatre-features/9596580/Michael-Gambon-Trevor-Nunn-and-Eileen-Atkins-on-a-Beckett-weve-never-seen.html and www.mugglenet.com/mediasp/2004/november/michaelgambonrobbiecoltrane.shtml Michael Gambon descrbes himself as Irish.

Hence I feel it is wrong and inaccurate for certain editors to deliberately leave this fact due to nationalistic point-scoring, irrespective of the facts.

I ask for people to support the revision of the lede.

He was born and raised in Ireland to Irish parents during his youth, he states that he is Irish in the interview but also identifies as English. He has never renounced his Irish identity so it should not be left out.ÓCorcráin (talk) 18:17, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

World Socialist Web Site quotation

Terence7, please refrain from biased editing of this page. I am merely quoting a well respected and published website. Please refer to their wiki for more information http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Socialist_Web_Site. I will make a request for moderation if you continue to remove this quote. Whatever issue you may have with the quote does not change the fact that it is from a reliable source. Truman Starr (talk) 00:26, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:Vital articles

* I suggest we remove either Joseph Stalin or Vladimir Lenin, and add Franklin D. Roosevelt.

1) We already have Adolf Hitler. 2) Lenin was leader of the Soviets for 7 years, FDR led the US for 12 years. 3) FDR arguably saved the world from facism, and there are currently no US leaders from post-1865, while 6 others on the list are more recent. He is also widely considered one of the great US presidents. 4) VI Lenin is the 3rd Russian leader on the list. If we wanted to have more Russian leaders then US leaders (currently 2), we should add Peter the Great before including both Lenin and Stalin.

As alternates for removal, I suggest Stalin, Gandhi or Mao, should Lenin prove a more popular addition. Any thoughts? GabeMc (talk|contribs) 21:30, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

Talk:Steubenville High School

It's quite clear that media attention on this has exploded and there will be extensive coverage for quite some time. While no one has yet bothered to expand the section in the article, it is easy to see that it could be expanded three-fold and still not cover all of the relevant information. Of course, we don't want that to be in this article, as it is WP:UNDUE for the high school and it is constraining to the growth of the information on the case itself. So, I propose that the rape case section is spun off into its own article. Just make sure we keep note tags on the talk page and hidden notes in the text of the article saying that the names are not to be put into the article until an actual guilty conviction occurs, per WP:BLPCRIME. Why is Harry Potter (15 years old) not subject to anti-recentism? Is it due to its popularity, sales, notability, influence on literature? Why? Seems like a very simple question that should be easy to answer. GabeMc (talk|contribs) 22:30, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

Talk:Jermaine Jackson

Should the article be moved to Jermaine Jacksun his new legal name or remain at Jermaine Jackson?

Talk:Fort Hood shooting

Should the casualty figure in the lead section of the article give a single number or a range? Please see above discussion for previous debate regarding this question.

Per WP:CANVASS#Appropriate notification, I shall notify the relevant wikiprojects of this RfC.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 19:58, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Talk:Bill Biggart

Can background info be included to a bio article when the article creates the false perception that subject was the only media-related death at an event? Crtew (talk) 07:32, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Talk:Keith B. Alexander

Should we link Appelbaum's quote on Alexander being "the most powerful person"? I say yes, anon IP says no. --Ysangkok (talk) 23:59, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Talk:Trevor Lock

User 86.128.125.4 has twice deleted the section "Rape allegation" without explanation. This section is a notable and well-documented episode in Lock's life, and is backed up by suitable sources. A similar section (a dismissed rape allegation) is in place at Craig Charles. I would appreciate others' thoughts on whether the section should persist, and whether this article should be semi-protected to prevent its repeated deletion. Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (clergy)

Why do popes in English Wikipedia have the word Pope in the title? Saint Joan of Arc redirects to Joan of Arc. Archbishop Timothy Dolan and Timothy Cardinal Dolan both redirect to Timothy M. Dolan. President Bill Clinton redirects to Bill Clinton. Besides, many other Wikipedias don't use the word Pope. E.g. en:Pope Benedict XVI,,,,. See also /Archive 1#Inclusion of titles in article names - suggest changing Pope Innocent IX to Innocent IX, etc. Fridek (talk) 15:32, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Talk:Charlize Theron

A debate surrounding the way to describe Theron's nationality in this article's lead has been simmering on for some time.

Previous discussion regarding this issue can be seen in these sections -

African American
Re:African American
U.S. citizen
Nationality
German citizenship application
South African-American or African-American?
South African-born
Manual of Style on nationality
Application of WP:MOSBIO and WP:OPENPARA
US in Lead Sentence
Nationality II
Self-identification as South African sourced

A number of proposals for solutions have been put forward to solve this debate. Here are several which have been proposed.

Solution A - Describe Theron as "South African" only in the lead.
Solution B - Describe Theron as "American" only in the lead.
Solution C - Describe Theron as "South African and American" in the lead.
Solution D - Describe Theron as "South African-born American" in the lead.
Solution E - Do NOT mention Theron's nationality in the lead or infobox. Discuss it in the body of the article.
Solution F - Do NOT mention Theron's nationality in the lead. List "South African" in the infobox and discuss it in the body of the article.

Please weigh-in, indicating the solution(s) you support using the example format below. Include a brief explanation of your rationale. Or, alternatively, if you have some idea which hasn't previously been put forward, let us know!

Example format:

  • Support C or D - She's clearly a mix of Yank and South Afican. ISupportStuff (talk) 20:35, 18 February 2252 (UTC)
