S2000s and the Mid-Ohio 200

pbook4g5 is here to spread the word about Honda’s promotional decal program with IndyCar. -SF

Being a relatively new S2000 owner (I purchased my 2008 Laguna Blue Pearl on March 31, 2012), I was eager and excited to get involved in my local S2K community. The Ohio S2000 community is fairly active considering there are only four major cities (Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland and Toledo) spread out across the state. The marquee community event that takes place with members from the Ohio S2KI group is the Honda Indy 200 Mid-Ohio decal promotion. Continue reading →

Event Report: SCCA Northeast National Tour

Steguis brings us another remarkable motorsports video and writeup, this time of the Northeast Region National Tour. -SF

The S2000, with its racing-bred performance, has attracted many serious autocross competitors over the years. Most recently, the S2000 has been dominating two particular classes in SCCA Solo (autocross), B-Stock (BS) and Street Touring Roadster (STR). In BS, the car must remain mostly stock with only a few allowed changes, namely tires (wheels can be changed but must be the same size as stock), one sway bar (either front or rear), shocks (but not springs) and a cat-back exhaust. STR, on the other hand, allows pretty much any suspension change, wheels up to 9” wide, street tires (treadwear 140 or higher) no wider than 255mm, an intake, header, high flow cat, exhaust, differential, and racing seats and a re-tune with the OEM ECU. There are more subtleties to the rules but that’s the gist of it. Continue reading →

Sports Night

Sitting in pit lane, waiting to start session three, my hands are shaking so badly it takes three tries to drop the handbrake. The rational part of my brain, the bit that’s been ceaselessly berating me for signing up for a night track session since the sun went down, is reduced to white noise and static. The Fear has taken over. Watching Brad and Gavin, ordinarily impossible to faze, come in at the end of their session wide-eyed and speechless, and seeing the maelstrom of lights and dust as cars fought it out in the darkness, The Fear had built slowly. Now, with the yawning black gulf of the track entrance ahead, it peaked in a crescendo of pure terror. Continue reading →

Needle in a Haystack, Under a Car Cover…

Member F1 S2k recently had the opportunity to purchase a very rare, barely driven AP1. Read his short description here, and then click through to the excellent bowtie6.com for the full story. -SF

If anyone thinks the proverbial “barn find” is a legend you only read about in magazines, then read on… It happened to me a few weeks ago.

A friend of mine told me about an S2K stashed away in a barn of sorts. He got my attention, after all I knew what an S2000 was all about (it certainly has F1 DNA!) and while not exactly actively “looking” for one I was not about to pass on a pristine high performance automobile. So the more we talked the more curious I got and eventually I made the decision to purchase this gem. Continue reading →

Blue Monday

Member Patinum says farewell to his CR, and shares the experience with us. -SF

Three and a half years after I purchased my 2008 Honda S2000 CR delete model, it’s gone. I had traded in my AP1 to buy it new because I was getting more involved and competitive in racing. Now it is gone so I can build a true race car out of my recently acquired 2006 S2000.

The Chance of a Lifetime

Recently, member adrs2k had the opportunity to drive an S2000 at the Nurburgring while traveling to Germany. To say that I’m jealous is an understatement, but fortunately he put together a vivid account of the experience so we can all live vicariously! -SF

I met 34witt in the CR forum. We both own Apex Blue Pearl CRs. We started talking about a year ago when I learned he was stationed in Germany with the Air Force. I knew that, through my job, I had a chance that I could go to Germany for work someday. We kept in touch. About four weeks ago, I was asked to go to Germany. I quickly started emailing 34witt (Nathan) and we put some plans together. He was extremely awesome and let me stay at his house, eat his food, and use his car. I paid for some things here and there, and the laps. When he gets back stateside, he is attending one of my group drives so I am going to be covering the majority of the associated costs in an attempt to somehow repay him for his amazing hospitality. I would estimate it would take around $2,000 to do this on your own; I would certainly budget more though.

The Emperor’s New Driving Skills

People say revelations come at peculiar times. For me, it was during a frantic search for a gas station in Newport Beach, with the fuel gauge bouncing between “Empty” and “Imminent Disaster”. Despite the increasingly frantic salesperson next to me, the vaguely disturbing fact that I’d had a quarter tank remaining twenty miles ago, and the impression that who- or whatever controls traffic lights was deliberately hindering me, I was having fun. An Apology, and an Opportunity

Firstly, I’d like to apologize to the community for the dearth of new frontpage content over the last few months. There has not been a lack of publishable material- the response to the first request for community content was better than I could have hoped for. Unfortunately, my personal and professional life conspired to keep me away from the site for a time.

That time has now passed, and I look forward to once again bringing you all regular updates about our fantastic community.

Additionally, the News Team is excited to announce that we are looking for 2-3 new writers to join the staff. If you have a passion for writing (and the S2000, in a SFW sort of way), PM ScandinavianFlick and Mocky with a brief introduction and a sample of your work.

Keep your stick on the ice,

Time Flies

This video was created by member POG, who wanted to document a year with his car in a unique way. -SF

Lets face it, many of us have done it; strapped a camera somewhere on a car or bike. We do it to film our adventures so we can show the world (Or at least our friends and family), or just to reminisce. As S2000 owners most of us have even used the same camera position: The wind deflector.

When I bought my S2000 I immediately stuck my helmet camera onto it and started filming my boring commutes and spirited drives on country lanes. Anything would do. Once I got over just filming random journeys, I decided it was perhaps time to create a plan for the next film. I thus took inspiration from the awesome short film “C’était un Rendezvous”, in which a speculated Ferrari 275 rips through the streets of Paris. It was, of course, not a Ferrari, but a Mercedes 450SEL.

Give It The Boot

Hailing from my old home state, New York, Steguis brings us another northeast adventure. The video’s fantastic- well worth taking time out of your day to watch. -SF

Being a track and autocross junkie (and pretty much anything that involves enjoying driving a S2000 to its full potential), it’s always a thrill when I get to do my annual pilgrimage one the most incredible tracks in the Northeast- Watkins Glen International, more commonly referred to as “The Glen”. The Glen is nestled on a wooded hill top in Watkins Glen, NY; about 240 miles northwest of New York City. Continue reading →

Heat, History, and a Hyundai (S2000 Challenge Round 4)

They tore past in a visceral tremor of V8 violence, practically nose to tail- a Gulf-liveried GT40 and a blue-and-white Shelby Daytona Coupe, arcing smoothly and unhesitatingly into the vast sweep of Big Willow’s Turn 8. It was an image out of time; the physical embodiment of an idea so transcendent and enduring that it spanned half a century utterly unchanged. Continue reading →

Bear With Us

This article comes to us from member Steguis. Hopefully it will inspire us to get out, put the top down, and enjoy spring! -SF

As the weather starts to get warmer in the Northeast and the days slowly but surely get longer, many of us are once again excited to take our cars out, go to meets, hit the track and find any excuse possible to enjoy our cars. We are reminded of good times, hanging out with fellow S2000 owners, sharing our love for this amazing vehicle. Continue reading →

The Devil Went Down to Morenci

Editor’s Note: This is the first in our series of community contributions, courtesy of member Silence808. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. -SF

While it may be that you can get your kicks on Route 66, you take all the risks on Route 666.  Highway 191- formerly Route 666, sometimes called the Coronado trial, often called the Devil’s Highway – is a drive with 450 hairpin turns, 6,000ft of elevation changes (often without guardrails), and multiple topography changes in the course of 100 miles.  Imagine the Tail of the Dragon, only for six hours straight.  If America’s Highway, Rt. 66, winds like a gentle dream across the US, then Route 666 twists wildly like the unrelenting nightmares of a madman.
