it's the ultimate in the 60's San Francisco sound, never bettered in intensity by this band, or any others. it's not the components, but sure, we should list them - complex harmonies, jangly guitars, nonsense lyrics and a gleeful weirdness. but the songs - well, you'll have to pick your own favourite: i've been listening to this album for... more years than i care to, or am strictly able to remember, and you may just find the favourites change as you do. It is almost enough to make me drop...

Saturday Afternoon - 39:58 After Bathing at Baxter's was released in 1967 and is the third album by the San Francisco rock band Jefferson Airplane. Unlike Surrealistic Pillow, released earlier the same year, After Bathing at Baxter's is classified as psychedelic rock because it eschews the more commercial type pop songs, such as "Somebody to Love," that appeared on the earlier LP. As such, it was a watershed album; Jefferson Airplane was now a much heavier rock group. Jorma Kaukonen's electric guitar was especially more to the forefront in both volume and tone. Divided into "suites," this musical shift is typified by longer and more experimental compositions such as the nine-minute instrumental "Spare Chaynge" and Grace Slick's mammoth and unusual "rejoyce," an homage to James Joyce's novel Ulysses, with its quirky arrangement and Jack Casady's stentorian bass line. Many of the album tracks reflect the band's heavy use of the drug LSD. The cover art is by artist Ron Cobb. The album peaked at no. 17. The first single, "The Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil," barely missed the top 40 mark, charting at #42 while ...

"Young Girl Sunday Blues" Jefferson Airplane Studio Instrumental
The song 'Young Girl Sunday Blues' eventually made it to 1967's AFTER BATHING AT BAXTERS with the music culled from live recordings at the Fillmore. The band was unsatisfied with this studio recording of the song; they felt it was too bland. You be the judge yourself! Spare Chaynge (Complete) - The Jefferson Airplane (1967)
Spare Chaynge (Casady/Kaukonen/Dryden) clocking in at 24 minutes 12 seconds! From the After Bathing at Baxters sessions recorded at Pacific High Studios in October 1967. Those familiar with this work will recognize the last 9 minutes, which made it onto the LP, cited at the time as the best example of a SF jam yet to be put on vinyl. The extended jam here showcases the Aiplaine's unquestionable engine, bassist Jack Casady, tasty licks from longtime friend and psychedelic lead guitarist extraordinaire Jorma Kaukonen, as well as the jazzy crisp professional percussion of Spencer Dryden (1938-2005, RIP). Dryden went on to work with The New Riders of the Purple Sage; somewhat later Casady and Kaukonen left the Airplane to concentrate variously on live and studio performances as Hot Tuna, continuing to perform and record to this day, presently (December 2010) working on their first studio effort in twenty years. Hot Tuna live dates: jormakaukonen.com IMHO, featuring absolute pure brilliance from the man who taught the world how to play the electric bass guitar, the God of the long neck fretted double pickup electric hollow body, rock and roll hall of famer (along with the rest of the Airplane) Mr. Jack F#cking Casady! www.jackcasady.com Presented for educational purposes under fair use, all rights reserved by the original copyright holders. LINK: tinyurl.com Jefferson Airplane was a psychedelic rock group formed in San Francisco. It was the first of several Bay Area psychedelic groups of the 1960s to become internationally known. The band was founded by singer Marty Balin and guitarist Paul Kantner in 1965. With the addition of Signe Anderson, their male-female singing style showed their folk music roots plus Balin's love of R&B; singing styles. In fact their dual lead vocals were a hallmark of their sound throughout the Airplane's career, as confirmed (to international acclaim) after Grace Slick replaced Signe Anderson as the female singer. The other members of the band were guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, bassist Jack Casady and drummer Alexander "Skip" Spence. After the release of their first studio album, Takes Off (only released in the USA), Anderson and Spence left the band. They were replaced by Grace Slick and Spencer Dryden, respectively. Grace Slick brought with her an amazing voice, attitude and two songs from her former band The Great Society. Both songs, "Somebody To Love" and "White Rabbit", received much airplay and helped make the band's second album Surrealistic Pillow a big seller, and also to pretty much define San Francisco's "Summer of Love" zeitgeist, just as the psychedelic era was coming into full bloom. Jefferson Airplane - Watch Her Ride (Perry Como Special, 1968)
This song band performed on Perry Como Special TV Show. Also this show include well-known video with another song of this group "Martha": www.youtube.com

One of my personal favourite guitar solos of all time
This was recorded in a 1967 live performance, when nobody already did things like these in rock music: in this performance Jefferson Airplane mixed their traditional folk-rock inspirations with an amazing jazz sound, featuring astonishing guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, with his unmistakable gibson sound, unique bassist Jack Casady and jazzy drummer (RIP) Spencer Dryden. incredible jam-out of the psychedelic song "The Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil"! The title of this video was "One of the best guitar solos I've ever heard!" but then i changed it 'cause people actually don't like that kind of statements, and I understand that :D. anyway take this video as an advice, something like "in my opinion it's cool, if u don't know Jorma, check him out!" here's my facebook profile if you wanna talk about music with me: www.facebook.com
