ABC cancels '666,' 'Last Resort'

9 hours ago | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

It’s a sad day for fans of two ambitious ABC dramas that came up short in the ratings this fall: Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue will soon end their runs.

ABC will continue airing the original 13-episode orders for both shows, but neither will receive a full-season pickup.

For 666, the writing has been on the wall for weeks. The Sunday-night supernatural drama starring Terry O’Quinn has been shedding its Revenge lead-in and been on a downward spiral since its debut.

For Last Resort, the news is somewhat surprising. Though its ratings matched the performance of 666, Shawn Ryan’s »

CBS cancels freshman sitcom 'Partners'

13 hours ago | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

CBS has axed Partners, the latest comedy from Will & Grace creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan that focused on the working partnership of one gay man and one heterosexual.

The comedy that starred Michael Urie and David Krumholtz has averaged a 2.4/6 in adults 18-49 and a mere 6.5 million viewers. It routinely ties for third in its time slot in the demo but comes in fourth in viewers. Repeats of the comedy will begin to air Monday. CBS, for now, is not confirming the show’s status.

Though those numbers are comparably low to some of CBS’ other comedies, Partners is »

After ten years, Discovery Channel is ending American Chopper.

The Teutuls are going to build their final bikes on the network next month. Chopper’s run will conclude with the previously announced four-way bike build-off special titled The Revenge airing live from Las Vegas on Dec. 11.

“After 10 years and 233 episodes of incredible, riveting reality television, American Chopper will be ending its run,” says Eileen O’Neill, group president, Discovery and TLC Networks. “This series was one of the »

TV Trailer: ‘Doctor Who Christmas Special’

1 hour ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

The BBC’s Doctor Who is a not-at-all-guilty pleasure for a lot of people, and they always do a fine Christmas special. A couple of years back featured a truly brilliant take on A Christmas Carol. This year Jenna-Louise Coleman joins as (a temporarily moody and Scrooge-like Doctor) Matt Smith’s new companion for “The Snowmen” which will air Stateside on BBC America. »

Canceled shows: Does your outrage matter?

1 hour ago | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

In the last 24 hours, two broadcast nets yanked three new series off the air –ABC’s 666 Park Avenue and Last Resort, and CBS’ Partners. Though low ratings typically justify the premature deaths, that’s little consolation to viewers who connected early to the programs (or in this case, at least one of them).

“Really sad about Last Resort!” wrote a reader named Jess on the EW message board. “I love that show and I think it’s one of the better ones on TV these days.” This from someone named T Money: “I can’t believe they cancelled Last Resort. »

'Doctor Who': Christmas special teaser features the Doctor's new companion

1 hour ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

We've known for a while that the "Doctor Who" Christmas special will introduce the Doctor's new companion -- or rather, re-introduce her.

Jenna-Louise Coleman also appeared in the show's season premiere, "Asylum of the Daleks." In the Christmas special, "The Snowmen," the show circles back to the Doctor meeting Clara (Coleman) for the "first" time -- and this trailer suggests she knows more than a little bit about him.

We meet Clara as a nanny, and she tells her charges that the Doctor lives on a cloud and makes sure children don't have bad dreams -- which is a pretty apt description, don't you think? The Doctor, however, has retreated from the world a little since the Ponds left him, so he might need a little convincing to return to action.

The source of the nightmares here is Doctor Simeon (Richard E. Grant), who commands an army of fearsome-looking snowmen. »

ABC Cancels 'Last Resort' & '666 Park Avenue'

3 hours ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

As someone who watched both shows regularly, I can't say that I'm surprised. I was most excited about Last Resort, especially after we saw the first trailer for it. I had high hopes. But it's becoming clearer to me that the best dramas are just no longer on network TV. You can to go to cable for if you want to see the great stuff.  Right now, unless a show has the names J.J. Abrams, Shonda Rhimes or Jerry Bruckheimer attached to it, it's probably not on solid ground. Although that's not a steadfast rule. ABC has canceled both Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue. Why? Why else? Ratings. Both started the season fairly decently (especially Last Resort), but gradually dropped in terms of viewership. Although neither was what you'd call a sure-fire hit. Last Resort averaged about 7.3 million total viewers, with last the last episode scoring the lowest ratings for the show since its debut, »

Update: Atlas Media Says Producers Rejected WGA East As Negotiators

5 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Update: Atlas Media asserts in response to the Writers Guild of America East’s filing an unfair labor claim that an “overwhelming majority” of the company’s producers this week petitioned management to remove WGA East as their bargaining representative. “As required by law,” Atlas said, it “withdrew recognition from the WGA, effective immediately.” Atlas Media Evp-General Manager Jeanne McHale-Waite said that the petition made clear that the majority of producers wish to bargain directly with Atlas. From the company’s statement: Upon notification from Atlas Media that it has withdrawn recognition in accordance with the law, rather than respecting the clear wishes of Atlas Media employees, the WGA immediately filed an unfair labor practice charge with Region 2 of the National Labor Relations Board contesting the withdrawal. Atlas Media is confident that this administrative charge, which contains no specific factual allegations, is entirely without merit. Previously:Atlas Media is a »

Who won 'America's Next Top Model: College Edition' - Kiara, Laura or Leila?

6 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"America's Next Top Model: College Edition" crowned its champion Friday (Nov. 16) -- so who took the prize?

(Finale spoilers coming right up.)

After final photo shoots for sponsors Nine West and Nylon magazine and a haunted house-themed runway show, the winner is Laura James, the daughter of former "Dynasty" star John James. Kiara finished second, and Leila -- who fell during the final runway show -- came in third.

Here's how it went down:

Pics: 'America's Next Top Model: College Edition'

Things don't start auspiciously for Laura, who was collateral damage in a snit between Kelly Cutrone and the photographer during her shoe photo shoot. The argument left Laura with very little time to get a good shot.

Leila and Kiara have their own problems: Leila has some trouble "connecting to the product," and Kiara doesn't want to let go of her serious face.

MTV Buys Mystery Drama Produced By Kelsey Grammer

MTV has put in development Blackwood, a drama from Lionsgate Television and Kelsey Grammer’s Grammnet Prods. DC Comic book and television writer Peter Calloway (Brothers & Sisters) will write the adaptation. But she makes a chilling discovery when she uncovers that she’s at the center of not only this mystery, but one that traces back to the first American mystery: the disappearance of 114 people at what would be called The Lost Colony. Netflix’s Reed Hastings Says Amazon Is Losing $500M to $1B A Year On Streaming

7 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings says “Amazon is the best competitor we’ve ever faced” — but he estimates his retail rival is losing between $500 million and $1 billion a year on its streaming content, according to a report on AllThingsD. Hastings says he bases those figures on the value of content deals Amazon won when the rivals competed head-to-head. To become a real threat, Hastings says Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos will have to spend a lot more money. Netflix has said it plans to spend $2.1 billion on content over the next year. Amazon spokesman Andrew Herdener responded to Hastings’ remarks via email: “We don’t comment on our individual investments but it’s correct that Prime Instant Video is an amazing value for customers. Not only do Prime members get unlimited streaming video, but they also get free 2-day shipping and the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library as well.” Last week broadband service »

'American Idol': Judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj don't hate each other anymore

7 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

It seems like news of feuding judges on reality super-giant "American Idol" have been coming ever since the new panel was announced. And it has definitely been a foregone conclusion that judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey were in a war with each other ever since footage of a fight surfaced.

Now, however, the show reports that all is well between the two singing divas. This is a good thing for season 12 of the show, which has just finished its last round of auditions in Long Beach, CA.

An insider at "Idol" reported to People that the wars had died down before the final auditions: "Mariah and Nicki sat next to each other yesterday. There really is some great chemistry among all the judges."

While this might sound like rather low standards for getting along, simple proximity is a huge improvement over judges' relations back in the beginning of October. »
