Nightingale founded a graphic design business and also worked as a model and actress. She and her husband Michael started a heating, air, and appliance repair business.
Nightingale has been active in politics since 2005, including organizing rallies and marches in California opposing amnesty and demanding secure borders. In 2006 she served as campaign manager for third party candidate for governor Art Olivier.
Campaign platform
Nightingale's campaign materials list her platform as follows:
- 1. YES on Prop 23 - "Chelene will unequivocally vote YES on Prop 23 in November. If Prop 23 fails, she will use every avenue available to her by law to suspend AB 32."
- 2. YES to turning the water back on in the Central Valley
- 3. YES to placing the California State Military Reserve (different than National Guard) at our border
- 4. NO on state funding of sanctuary cities
- 5. NO on state benefits to illegal aliens
- 6. NO on amnesty
- 7. YES on legal immigration
- 8. YES to part-time legislature
- 9. YES on a State Central Bank (similar to North Dakota)
Elections
2010
Nightingale defeated Markham Robinson in the June 8 primary by a margin of 58.2% to 41.8%.
She faced Meg Whitman (R), Jerry Brown (D), Laura Wells (G), Dale Ogden (L) and Carlos Alvarez (Peace and Freedom) in the general election on November 2, 2010.
