Last year, the British songstress swept the ceremony with six wins for her sophomore album, 21 (album of the year, pop vocal album); "Rolling in the Deep" (record of the year, song of the year, best short form music video); and "Someone Like You" (this category). Her live performance of "Set Fire to the Rain," included on her DVD/Blu-ray/CD release Live at the Royal Albert Hall, keeps her Grammy momentum steady.

Before releasing her fifth album, Stronger, Kelly Clarkson hit the Billboard Hot 100 with lead single "Mr. Know It All," which peaked at No. 10. But it was with the offering's second standout, "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)," that she crowned the chart for three weeks. The empowerment anthem became Clarkson's third, and longest-leading, Hot 100 No. 1 after "A Moment Like This" and "My Life Would Suck Without You," selling 3.9 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. In addition to best pop solo performance, "Stronger" earned a nomination for record and song of the year.

The tart earworm, included on her debut album, Kiss, spent a whopping nine consecutive weeks atop the Hot 100, has sold 6.3 million copies and became the second-biggest-selling digital song of the year. In addition to the track being named Billboard's Song of the Summer, the Canada native was recently honored as Billboard's Rising Star for 2012.

After landing five consecutive Hot 100 No. 1s from the standard edition of sophomore album Teenage Dream, Katy Perry mined chart gold with the repackaged Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection. The latter's first offering, "Part of Me," crashed the charts in the days following her performance of the song at last year's Grammys, bowing at No. 1 and selling 2.5 million copies. "Wide Awake" followed suit, topping the Mainstream Top 40, Adult Top 40 and Dance Club Songs charts and marking Perry's ninth Grammy nod -- though she's yet to take home a golden statue.

Rihanna

SONGWRITERS: Ester Dean, Lukasz Gottwald, Calvin Harris, Geoff Mack, Henry Walter
PUBLISHERS: Dat Damn Dean/Universal Music Publishing/Kasz Money Publishing/EMI Music Publishing/Oneirology Publishing/Prescription Songs/Unichappell Music

After delivering the monstrous lead single "We Found Love" from her sixth album, Talk That Talk, Rihanna kept the ball rolling with "Where Have You Been." The Barbadian singer performed the thumping cut, produced by Dr. Luke, Cirkut and Calvin Harris, for the first time at a 2012 post-Grammy charity fund-raiser with Deadmau5. It later topped the Dance Club Songs chart and peaked at No. 5 on the Hot 100. With five trophies already to her name, Rihanna has another three shots at winning in 2013, also landing nods for "We Found Love" (best short form music video) and "Talk That Talk" featuring Jay-Z (best rap/sung collaboration).
