Baauer Tops Hot 100 for Fifth Week, Despite Continued Streaming Slide

Baauer

"Harlem Shake" remains at No. 1, but a hefty loss in streaming closes the gap between the track and "Thrift Shop," which crowns Digital Songs for a 10th week. Plus: P!nk enters the Hot 100's top 10

Baauer leads the Billboard Hot 100 for a fifth week with "Harlem Shake," although the viral smash registers a fourth consecutive week of declines in YouTube streaming. As a result, the song's lead shrinks considerably over the chart's No. 2 title, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' former four-week No. 1 "Thrift Shop," featuring Wanz.

After "Shake" entered the Hot 100 at No. 1 concurrent with the addition of U.S. YouTube video streaming data to the chart, online momentum for the song, the viral hit thanks to its pop culture-conquering meme, slips for a fourth straight week. "Shake" holds at No. 1 on the Nielsen BDS-based Streaming Songs chart with a 42% decrease to 28 million streams, down from 48 million last week. It logged 54 million the week before, 98 million three weeks ago and 103 million upon its Hot 100 debut. "Shake," does, however, increase in on-demand audio streaming. It falls 16-19 on the audio subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart but with a 17% gain to 739,000 streams.

Sales for "Shake" slide by 22% to 146,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan, as "Shake" descends 4-6 on the Digital Songs chart. Its total radio audience weakens by 9% to 7.1 million, a sum not strong enough for "Shake" to have yet reached the 75-position-deep all-format BDS-based Radio Songs chart (making it the first such Hot 100 No. 1 since 2006.)

As "Shake" again rules the Hot 100 (and the Dance/Electronic Songs chart), Macklemore & Lewis' "Shop" remains at No. 2 following a four-week command, while holding atop Radio Songs and Digital Songs. It leads Radio Songs with 118 million in audience (down 2%) and tops Digital Songs for a 10th week. "Shop" becomes one of just four songs to command Digital Songs for at least 10 weeks; Flo Rida's "Low," featuring T-Pain, ruled for 13 in 2007-08, while the Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling" each dominated for 10.

With 270,000 in digital sales (down 12%), "Shop" reaches 4.8 million sold to date. The total, however, halts the song's record sum for the most weeks (nine) of selling 300,000 or more.

"Shop" leads On-Demand Songs for a record-extending 11th week, topping the list with 1.97 million on-demand streams (up 25%). "Shop" holds at No. 2 on Streaming Songs (9.5 million, up 4%) and leads Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a 10th week.

"Shake" decreases by a lofty 39% in overall Hot 100 chart points and "Shop" drops by just 4%. Thus, after "Shake" held a two-to-one points lead (103%) over "Shop" last week, the margin contracts to a 29% lead for "Shake" this week.

Below the now-five-week logjam at Nos. 1 and 2, other notable Hot 100 action abounds. Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man" (3-3) claims the Hot 100's top Airplay Gainer award for a sixth consecutive week. The streak is the longest since fun.'s six-week No. 1 "We Are Young" (featuring Janelle Monae) also linked six straight weeks with the honor last year and the best by a male since T.I.'s "Live Your Life" (featuring Rihanna) ran up six in a row in late 2008. "Man" zooms 7-2 on Radio Songs with a 20% uptick to 115 million in audience. It climbs 6-5 on Streaming Songs (4.5 million, up 23%) and holds at No. 2 on Hot Digital Songs (230,000, down 4%).

Following his role as host and musical guest on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" (March 9), Justin Timberlake's "Suit & Tie," featuring Jay-Z, returns to its No. 4 Hot 100 peak (5-4), after first reaching the rank eight weeks ago. Encompassing a full week  of sales after the appearance, "Suit" gains by 33% to 201,000 downloads sold, also lifting 5-4 on Digital Songs. It pushes 5-3 on Radio Songs (113 million, up 14%) and enters the Streaming Songs top 10 (12-7; 3.8 million, up 60%), granting it the Hot 100's top Streaming Gainer badge. Follow-up "Mirrors," meanwhile, is the Hot 100's top Digital Gainer, bounding 77-25. It flies 48-8 on Digital Songs (121,00, up 205%). (Timberlake, thus, becomes the first artist to earn the Streaming and Digital Gainer awards in the same week with different songs since the Streaming Gainer ribbon was introduced a year ago this month.)

The tracks usher in Timberlake's third solo album, "The 20/20 Experience," released yesterday and expected to storm in atop next week's Billboard 200 album chart.

Rihanna's "Stay," featuring Mikky Ekko, retreats 4-5 on the Hot 100 despite strong airplay and streaming gains. It surges 16-11 on Radio Songs (71 million, up 30%) and holds at No. 9 on Streaming Songs (3.4 million, up 15%). The cut holds at No. 3 on Digital Songs with a 6% decline to 222,000.

Drake's "Started From the Bottom" returns to its No. 6 Hot 100 peak (7-6), switching spots with Taylor Swift's No. 2-peaking "I Knew You Were Trouble." (6-7), while will.i.am and Britney Spears' No. 3 hit "Scream & Shout" stays at No. 8. (this week, will.i.am released a new single, "#thatPOWER," featuring Justin Bieber.)

P!nk produces her 14th Hot 100 top 10, as "Just Give Me a Reason," featuring fun.'s Nate Ruess, vaults 18-9. The third single from her first Billboard 200 No. 1 album, "The Truth About Love," jumps 8-5 on Digital Songs (171,000, up 40%), 42-19 on Streaming Songs (2.1 million, up 86%) and 44-31 on Radio Songs (38 million, up 43%). She began her Truth About Love tour on Feb. 13, likely helping spur the song's continued across-the-board progress. Ruess, meanwhile, makes his first solo top 10 appearance on the Hot 100, following fun.'s six-week No. 1 "We Are Young" and No. 3-peaking "Some Nights."

Following his health scare on Friday, Lil Wayne's "Love Me," featuring Drake and Future, dips 9-10, although with a points increase. It rises 29-25 on Radio Songs (43 million, up 5%) and, perhaps owed in part to piqued interest following his hospitalization for a reported seizure, gains by 13% to 1 million on-demand streams.

Check Billboard.com tomorrow (March 21), when all rankings, including the Hot 100 and On-Demand Songs in their entirety and Digital Songs and Radio Songs, will be refreshed, as they are each Thursday.
