Rock act Creed has confirmed its initial slate of 2002 North American tour dates. As revealed here earlier this week, the trek is set to kick off Jan. 14 at the Civic Center in Lakeland, Fla., although that date has not yet been officially confirmed. Currently confirmed tour dates begin with a Jan. 16 show at Atlanta's Phillips Arena, and stretch through to a Feb. 17 show at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Mo.

The band is expected to tour Australia in March, with more U.S shows in April, then a European tour in May and June, and a full-scale North American run in the planning stages to begin in July and last into the fall.

The tour comes in support of Creed's third album, "Weathered" (Wind-Up), which opened on top of The Billboard 200 earlier this week after selling 887,000 copies in the U.S., according to SoundScan. The album's first single, "My Sacrifice" jumped 22-17 on The Billboard Hot 100, and is holding at No. 2 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

With the successful opening of "Weathered" on the charts and the tour not due to start until the middle of January, the band has no plans to remain idle through the balance of 2001. On Sunday (Dec. 2), Creed will be both performers and presenters on the My VH1 Music Awards, and will appear the next night on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno."

On Tuesday, the band will be among the presenters at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas. That show will be broadcast live on Fox television from the MGM Grand Arena beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
