GI Show 149: BioShock Infinite's Ken Levine, Gears of War: Judgment

We're excited to welcome Ken Levine, the visionary creator of BioShock and the upcoming BioShock Infinite, to this week's Game Informer podcast.

We were fortunate to get the opportunity to speak with Ken about BioShock Infinite, which releases next week. Host Matt Helgeson and Joe Juba, who wrote Game Informer's cover story on BioShock Infinite, interview Ken about the game's design, plot, inspirations, and long development cycle. As always, his answers are interesting and thought-provoking.

On a slightly less high-brow note, Game Informer's Dan Ryckert stops by in the second segment to discuss his review of Gears of War: Judgment, Epic Games' latest entry in the ultra-popular third-person shooter series. While this game doesn't break much new ground, Epic did make some important changes in the game's single-player and co-op campaign as well as a the multiplayer, which includes one breathtaking new mode.

  • Great interview with one of the greatest creative forces in games. Just a heads up Matt, 1912 is pre-WWI.
  • It's quite aweoms that you got Ken Levine on the podcast. ^_^
  • Levine is one of my favorite devs of all time. He obviously has immense creative talent, but also a level of foresight and humility that the industry as a whole could use far more of.

  • Less high brow? Dan? Nah.
  • Great to listen to Levine's thoughts. I'm really looking forward to Infinite's story.

  • I can totally picture Levine and you guys sitting in a huge den, smoking pipes, with a fire going, discussing the high-minded things in games. Levine and Helgeson...the two most interesting men in the world. I don't always drink beer...
  • I can't wait for Bioshock! This is my most anticipated title since Skyrim!

  • Next week is going to be my best week EVER.

  • That Mr. Levine sounds quite knowledgeable.  Great podcast.

  • I love your guy's Podcast.. I've been waiting to hear this! Will you guys have one to cover BioShock Infinite next week too?

  • Ken Levine.. I pushed play and realized 10 minutes later that I hadn't understood one word! Maybe my ears are messed up because I am sick, but that was the most monotone and difficult to listen to interview. I think Levine needed coffee or sleep. Cool guy though.
  • World War 1 happened after 1912 guys...
  • So excited for Infinite. Great podcast guys.

  • Ken you badass MFer, how can somebody make so much sense, all the time?
  • March 26th is going to be the greatest day of my gaming life!

  • uh, matt helgeson, world war I was 1914-1918, so 1912 would be pre WWI and pre WWII. just so ya know...
  • I don't think Dan has fully played Judgement if he thinks it's worth the 60 dollar price tag. It comes with 4 MP maps.... yup, a AAA title, with four MP maps *slow clap*
  • It's funny how we go from listening to Ken Livine to Dan Ryckert, two exact same people. :P

  • Man, Ken Levine is getting around. Every game site I go to he's got together with; it's great! :D I'm excited to listen to this.
