What A 'Drag'

Roots/rock combo Old 97's' "Drag It Up" marks the group's debut for New West after three full-lengths for Elektra. It's the follow-up to 2001's "Satellite Rides," which debuted at No. 2 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and has sold more than 80,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Guitarist Ken Bethea calls the set Old 97's' "most personal. We recorded it on eight tracks, which pretty much means there was very little studio trickery. What you'll hear, or maybe I should say, what you won't hear, is second-guessing, sleight of hand or revisionist thinking."

In the time since "Satellite Rides," frontman Rhett Miller in 2002 released his Elektra solo debut, "The Instigator." Meanwhile, bassist Murry Hammond was a major presence on his wife Grey DeLisle's recent Sugar Hill album, "Graceful Ghost."
