U.K.'s PPL Creates Gov't Relations Post

British collecting society Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL) has elevated Dominic McGonigal to the new role of director, government relations. Effective immediately, McGonigal assumes responsibility for the London-based society's government lobbying activities.
McGonigal has been director of strategy and business development since joining the organization three years ago. He continues to report to its chairman/CEO Fran Nevrkla.
According to Nevrkla, the new position reflects the necessity of developing a close rapport with government and civil servants at all levels.
"It is vital for PPL to have good working relationships with Westminster and Whitehall," says Nevrkla. "We have made tremendous progress in this area over the last three years but the complexity of today's copyright and political environments calls for an even greater focus and emphasis," he adds.
In a related move, PPL head of PR Jill Drew now reports to Nevrkla. Drew previously reported to McGonigal.
PPL celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. It has 3,000 record company members and 30,000 registered performers. Its revenue last year totaled £81 million ($149 million).
