Ballotpedia exists to help readers learn useful information about every elected official in the United States. Ballotpedia is a project of the nonprofit Lucy Burns Institute. We exist because of donations from generous individuals, and this support keeps us ad free despite the thousands of dollars and hours it takes to accomplish this work every month. These donations allow us to maintain and expand our free, collaborative, online encyclopedia about America's elected officials. We really appreciate your support, and have developed multiple ways to give that (hopefully) make it easy and affordable to give.

Thank you!

Ballotpedia's goal

Our goal is to cover information about every elected official in the United States. Ballotpedia was created to help individuals make informed decisions about their elected officials. To do that, they need high-quality information about elections, incumbents and candidates at all levels of government. Putting information online makes it possible to cover all three branches of government -- executive, legislative and judiciary -- at all three levels -- federal, state and local.

When you include the local level, there are over 507,000 elected officials in the United States. Wouldn't it be great if individuals could find information about every single election, incumbent and candidate anywhere, at any level for any branch of government? That's what we want to do.
