Police hunt festival hit-and-run driver
Glastonbury
The body was discovered two miles from the festival
Police investigating a suspected hit-and-run collision near the Glastonbury festival are still searching for a driver of a Volkswagen camper van found close by.

The body of a London man of Ugandan origin was found at the side of the A361 at Springfield Cross at 0515 BST on Sunday.

The vehicle was found in a nearby car park with damage thought to have been caused by a collision.

A police patrol found the body at the Springfield crossroads, near the Bath and West Showground south of Shepton Mallet, Somerset.

Stolen vehicle

The location is about two miles from the Glastonbury festival site at Pilton.

Police believe a stolen white VW camper van, which was found in an unofficial festival car park near the Apple Tree pub on the A361, may be linked to the incident.

Avon and Somerset Police Inspector Nick Hunt said: "We are keeping an open mind at the moment. A body was found on the roadside and a stolen vehicle was found nearby.

"We suspect the two may be linked but it is too early to say at the moment."

Body found

Police have also revealed that the body of a 36-year-old man was found in his tent at the festival site on Monday as about 1,000 workers began a clear-up.

The man, who has not been named, is from the north of England and was discovered by his girlfriend in the D-block campsite near the Dance Tent.

A post-mortem examination will take place at a hospital in Bath on Tuesday.

Officers added that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
