I opted to get this along with my Fire TV, and I'll be honest for a first product launch I am quite impressed!
1. Pairing was very easy. The instructions were basic. Insert batteries, go to settings on Fire TV, choose to pair a controller. Done.
2. The device feels durable and made in a quality way. It doesn't feel light/cheap/junky at all.
3. It is very responsive. I was a little concerned because I've had some issues with other Bluetooth devices.
The only negative thing is more about the way the Fire OS handles the controller after sleeping. If you launch a game from the regular remote and the controller has gone to sleep, rather than saying "wake up your remote, dummy!" it says that the game requires a remote and you don't have one paired. Sort of true, but not as useful as it could be.
My controller use history is from Xbox and PS3 controllers for some years. I started many years ago in the Atari and Nintendo/Super Nintendo days, so I've had my hands on quite a few controllers. I found that it feels better than the "Mad Catz" Xbox controllers, if that means anything to you.
When I have a better idea of who this gaming is targeted to, it may impact my review. If they start knocking out top of the line games on this machine then I may think it could use some extra rubber in the joysticks, etc., not sure how well that will hold up, but all said and done for a day one product I was quite impressed.
