I think that was the design from TV manufacturer, only the second HDMI works.

You must have a "Roku Ready" device to use this. A remote is not supplied with the 3400M version, the Roku is controlled with the device remote. If you want a remote just for the Roku stick, you will need to buy the 3400R version. The Amazon listing for the 3400R version contains much more information on the steaming stick (except for the remote, the capabilities of the stick are the same).
I installed mine on an Insignia TV and with the TV remote the stick provides the same functionality as other Roku boxes. Added the stick to an existing Roku account and the channels transferred to the new stick.

As a long time Roku user (we have three Rokus of various vintages in our home) I tried the 3400M in my new LG 32LN530B with MHL port to get the Roku functionality we like in a small package. In short, it works, but we have to put up with some annoyances vs. our other Rokus to get the small form factor. The biggest issue: unlike other Rokus which are ready to go in an instant, this one reboots each time the TV is turned on. This reboot forces a wait of 1.5 min before it's ready to use. There are a couple other annoyances I'll detail below.

Currently Roku's web site does not list any LG brand TVs as "Roku Ready", so I wasn't sure about compatability. But I found a review online that showed the Streaming Stick working with an MHL-equipped Samsung TV (no Samsungs are currently listed as "Roku Ready" either). The reviewer said the "Roku Ready" certification isn't really required, just an MHL port, so I gave it a shot. I found that my 3400M works fully on my LG. It streams Netflix, Amazon and Aereo perfectly just like my other Rokus.

The small form factor is nice. The TV I connected this to is mounted flush on a wall. The 3400M is hidden neatly behind the screen. And since the 3400M uses the TV's remote there is one less of those lying around. Overall it's a neat appearance.

However, being a seasoned Roku user, I naturally compare this to my other Rokus. And unfortunately it just isn't the same, so I only give it four stars. Here are the issues I found:
- As I mentioned above, the Streaming Stick reboots each time I turn on my LG TV. So with this one I turn on the TV and wait, and wait. Interestingly my TV doesn't power down the Streaming Stick when it's off (it stays warm all the time).

Advantages of using the Streaming Stick: no box; no extra power and HDMI cables to deal with, just plug and play, and it works as advertised with good picture quality.

Drawbacks: you miss out on the the regular Roku remote: works from any angle; simple buttons; and if you have the newer Roku it has a headphone attachment, with the streaming stick of course you use the Roku ready TV remote, and most will not have these features. Also no USB capability, with most Roku boxes you can play videos and photos in a USB drive.

Overall it is a good item if you are concerned about space and cables, but for less money you can get more features with a regular Roku box (you can get the XS refurbished for about $30 now... I have two ;)~.

Very easy set-up, just plug it in your MHL port (only on newer model TV's, will not work on HDMI port) and it recognizes it quickly. Follow the onscreen instructions and you're on. The really nice part is it works with your TV remote without any programing. Must have high speed internet connection, no hard wiring. Video and audio is good on most channels. Some channels like Amazon instant video and Netflix the audio comes through low. You have to turn up the volume a lot to hear it. I don't think that is a Roku issue, it's the signal from Amazon and Netflix. The audio from channels like Pandora and Crackle is excellent. However the picture is very good quality on all channels. Best thing there is no need for power cords or cables. I would recommend to anyone. Hopefully Amazon and Netflix can get the audio problem corrected. I only use a two channel PCM stereo from the TV speakers and a sound bar, so there really shouldn't be audio issues.

For Christmas I bought a new 40" oCosmos Roku Ready TV for the Bedroom. Since it was "Roku Ready" I had to research what the heck that means, and if it is something I wanted. I took a chance and ordered the Roku Stick that arrived the day after the new TV. I must say, its been great! We get TONS of movies, TV series, all either free or by signing up for a service like Netflix or Hulu or any of the many out there nowadays. There are endless hours of entertainment and I must say, its nice that hubby spends more time relaxing in the bedroom while I get to putter around the rest of the house doing my chores or talking with the kids without having to be quiet while he watches his shows. Its been an excellent purchase!

I have bought this device for my Element TV that I bought on Black Friday. On the box said "Roku Stick Ready", that was the reason why I bought this little device. The shipping is very fast, since I use Prime with 2 day shipping free. Roku 3400M comes in with a little brown box and a manual which is good for me to get more information about this device. I have use Roku Streaming Player before, this device is the same use, in smaller package, use HDMI port, you don't have to use the external power, or remote. The TV remote is good enough. I find that more convenient than 3400R model. Use just one remote for both will better than use two, and it is cheaper.

When I plug in the device, my TV is recognized the stick right away. Please note that you need to have the TV with "Roku Stick Ready" to use it. My TV has 3 HDMI port, the first one can not plug in Roku Stick due to its design, the third HDMI port is not recognize Roku Stick, only the second HDMI works. I think that was the design from TV manufacturer, only the second HDMI works.

When install the Roku Stick, I have to connect to the internet, and download update. This take a few minutes. After install software update, I have to register the device with Roku.com in order to use it. For me this is very inconvenient, since I MUST have to enter my credit card, or Paypal information while register the device. I feel not safe when doing so. Why Roku did not do like Google Play, you can enter the payment information later when you buy something on it site. If something free like Netflix, Amazon Streaming, Hulu, etc..., why you ask for the payment information before hand. If it free then keep it free, just an email for registration then that was enough.

This device is exactly the same as Roku Streaming Player that I have used in the past and current, in smaller form without external power and remote control. It stream very fast, and works well. Recommended.
